[opensuse-packaging] GCC regression - any hints on what should I do?
Hi! There is apparent GCC regression so that a package which works well when built with GCC-4.3 crashes if it is built with GCC-4.5 and GCC-4.6. Is there an established procedure of handling this? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

Debug it. It is in 99% of all cases a bug in the package. If it is not,
reduce it to a testcase, open a bugzilla against GCC.

that most of the time, means there is a subtle bug in the package itself, you have to debug it before considering it a compiler bug. Compiler bugs do exist but are notoriously less frequent than bugs in programs. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

kdepim3 https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=kdepim3&project=KDE%3AKDE3 Currently it builds with GCC-43 because kmail crashes otherwise: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=735064 this is common for all KDE3 distributions: http://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-desktop/msg_c9260e08bfbf5120f5b87f02a595c9... There is a patch that makes it not to crash when standalone, but when this patch is applied, it crashes when embeded in kontact, even when built with the old compiler. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

kdepim3
AFAIR some months ago I've sr'ed a "fix" against openSUSE 11.[2-4], explicitly using gcc-4.3 instead of the current one which fixed random crashes. If we don't have gcc-4.3 available anymore then this should be fixed within kdepim3 itself I think.
