[opensuse-packaging] If I as maintainer see a bug ...
All, I maintain ewftools and I just found a significant bug that impacts 12.2 and 12.3. Do I have to file a bugzilla, or can I just branch, fix, submit. Thanks Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

I went there before I posted. This is the relevant piece: === Once you've completed your changes, add an entry to the .changes files using osc vc. briefly describe the problem, one line per problem include a reference to the bug number in the form (bnc#12345) for security fixes include the CVE number if available. === Is the bug reference mandatory, or can I submit a fix without first having to create a bug? We use the bug report to track the issue also for later, so it's highly recommended - even though I'm not sure there is something in the work flow requiring it. The bug reference is mandatory as opensuse review team and maintenance team decided some months back. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

I may have missed it but does the review and maintenance teams share the outcome decisions as it looks like in this case even the release manager is not sure if this is required for the workflow. Well, yes. coolo is the release manager, and not part of the a (bit stricter than the regular openSUSE factory) maintenance workflow. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

Fine but the question is still open (or I haven't gotten in which case need tea). Can you point me to the results of such decisions. If it wasn't Greg's question I would not have thought of opening a bug report but as a maintainer just fixing the bug. Would it not be better for everyone involved to hear or even discuss things before it becomes part of workflow Togan Ps. Are you sure you are talking about the same thing? There is normal packaging for Factory and there are bug- and security fixes which end up in maintenance updates for released distributions. For the latter it's IMHO obvious that a bug entry is needed since the maintenance request always requires a running workflow and several people involved in the process where more information than just the *.changes is needed. At least I understood that this is the case since ages.
