[opensuse-packaging] libsord-0-0 vs libsord-0
Hi. Some libraries have MAJOR version number included twice in SONAME: libsord-0.so.0 will be libsord-1.so.1 in the next major release. Is there any point in naming the library package with two numbers? Can it be named just libsord-0 instead of libsord-0-0 ? This also applies to other libraries: lilv, serd, sratom, suil Especially in suil package there are additional plugins, installed under /usr/lib64/suil-0/ which is a bit confusing, as the library package is named libsuil-0-0, and it seems to break with next major release (libsuil-0-1, which will never happen) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

The package name is to follow the filename (details in the wiki). If you want change, you have to change the filename, and that is best done upstream. --- wscript | 1 - 1 file changed, 1 deletion(-) Index: sord-0.12.2/wscript =================================================================== --- sord-0.12.2.orig/wscript +++ sord-0.12.2/wscript @@ -112,7 +112,6 @@ def build(bld): export_includes = ['.'], name = 'libsord', target = 'sord-%s' % SORD_MAJOR_VERSION, - vnum = SORD_VERSION, install_path = '${LIBDIR}', libs = libs, defines = defines + ['SORD_SHARED', 'SORD_INTERNAL'], -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
