[opensuse-packaging] 11.3 is not factory
Hi, Please note that as long as 11.3 is not released, factory is in freeze. That means, you can continue developing in your devel projects, but you should only submit to factory what is needed for 11.3. Additionally do not submit to 11.3, I will take care that everything that is submited to factory and should be in 11.3 ends up there - the rest will be ignored till after 11.3 GM. openSUSE:11.3 exists and you can submit to it, but it's useless as we do syncs from factory to it all the time. If in doubt, please ask me in IRC and don't worry :) Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

openSUSE:11.3:NonFree is still empty. When will it be filled? We had a problem in 11.2 with Cg and I would like to be 100% sure that it works now. Also, it seems iscan fails to build in Factory because of the drop of GTK1... a decision needs to be taken about that (unknown to me) package. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

iscan itself (of which I suspect that it needs GTK1) is a scanning application which can probably be dropped as xsane is a good-enough replacement. The iscan-firmware and the proprietary epkowa sane driver is however needed by many Epson scanners and should definetly be kept. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

This is all wrong. Neither is xsane a replacement for iscan (/usr/bin/iscan provides some special features for some Epson scanners) nor can we provide an up-to-date version of their proprietary stuff without losing support for some older Epson scanners because Avasys messed it up, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569917 and follow the links therein, in particular https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=425743 and http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2008-April/021911.html For any further questions, please contact Avasys directly! There is no package iscan in openSUSE:Factory. There is only iscan-free in openSUSE:Factory and this one seems to build o.k. There should be no package iscan or iscan-proprietary-drivers or iscan-firmware in any of our "official" openSUSE projects. Please retain at least iscan-firmware, many Epson scanners will not work without it. Without this package the firmware has to be extracted manually from the Windows driver which is quita a hassle. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

It is much easier to visit the Avasys web site and download their proprietary packages from them to make Epson scanners which need proprietary stuff work well under Linux. No, models like the Epson Perfection 3490/3590 work fine with the opensource sane snapscan driver, they don't need the epkowa driver or the iscan application, just the firmware. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

I have a 4990 on my desk, and with the installed iscan-free-2.10.0.1-88.1.i586 on openSUSE 11.2 it works perfectly. So I hope, this package is not removed. Regardless whether or not some Epson scanners which need proprietary stuff also work with a free driver plus firmware upload, it is usually easier (in particular for unexperienced users or lazy experts ;-) to visit the Avasys web site and use their proprietary software. Maybe we should find a way to hide openSUSE:11.3 until it's really branched? Or to automatically reject submissions sent there? we cant really hide projects. and we use it to test the update workflow. darix -- openSUSE - SUSE Linux is my linux openSUSE is good for you www.opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org
