I have successfully installed SLICK RC1 October 3rd version. In installing extra programs (Kpowersave, netapplet, Kontact etc) using kynaptic I am getting some warning or error messages. These don't seem to cause any problems but still, one never knows. Try to use smart. It's a more powerful tool for managing packages. After installing packages with smart run SuSEconfig manually. Cheers, -- Damian Mihai Liviu Mobile: +40 741 226993; Fax: +1 347-632-4117 Phone : +1 360-526-6441; +1 347-632-4117; +44 0870-3403339 URL: http://liviudm.blogspot.com

I guess I should put smart onto the next slick? Andreas

That's a good idea. Eventually with the apt repositories already configured, or at least base, java, extra, usr-local-bin, suser-*. I've just wasted 30min to configure the repos... :( Cheers, -- Damian Mihai Liviu Mobile: +40 741 226993; Fax: +1 347-632-4117 Phone : +1 360-526-6441; +1 347-632-4117; +44 0870-3403339 URL: http://liviudm.blogspot.com

Damian,
Try "install-apt4suse". It is very easy to install and configure your
repositories. You'll have to download apt and apt-libs from "base" instead of
"suser" as install-apt4suse tries for 10.0 and newer versions of SuSE. It can
later be used to update your sources.list...
Be seeing you,

Didn't know that. Thanks for the tip :-) -- Damian Mihai Liviu Mobile: +40 741 226993; Fax: +1 347-632-4117 Phone : +1 360-526-6441; +1 347-632-4117; +44 0870-3403339 URL: http://liviudm.blogspot.com

I have that mentioned error(s) too... What causes these errors? And when using smart I have always do "SuSEconfig" manually after installing or upgrading some new packages? -- Regards Heart

As suggested, I installed smart, and tried it wih success. I saw though that the errors/warnings were coming from the SuSEconfig in the prelink step. Again they were: Executing /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.prelink... running prelink, can take a long time .../usr/sbin/prelink: /usr/lib/NX/nxviewer: Could not find one of the dependencies /usr/sbin/prelink: /usr/lib/NX/nxdesktop: Could not find one of the dependencies /usr/sbin/prelink: /usr/lib/NX/nxagent: Could not find one of the dependencies /usr/sbin/prelink: /usr/lib/NX/nxproxy: Could not find one of the dependencies /usr/sbin/prelink: /opt/MozillaFirefox/lib/firefox-bin: Could not find one of the dependencies /usr/sbin/prelink: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.8.0: Not enough room to add .dynamic entry /usr/sbin/prelink: /usr/sbin/xcmd: shared library /usr/lib/libsax.so.7.1.0 appears possibly non-PIC and contains conflicts. No concern. Those are just prelink messages. I would not be too concerned Andreas
