no bluetooth on dell precision m90
hi, i am using a dell precision m90 notebook with opensuse10.2 x86_64. most hardware is working. but bluetooth does not! although i heared that it should work, coz other people wrote that the "dell bluetooth 350" card/chip works with opensuse.... what could be wrong? i installed every software belonging to bluetooth. i configured bluetooth in yast with the standard settings. i startet /etc/init.d/bluetooth start but when starting kbluetoothd it reports that it could not find any bluetooth-adapter. on my last notebook, a hp nc8430 when starting kde, automatically a message pops up, that a bluetooth-adapter was found. what did i miss, or what did i wrong, so that no bluetooth-adapter could be found? is there a problem with opensuse10.2? or 64bit? or is it a hardware-problem? -- einen schönen Tag noch, & bitte kein TOFU (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-mobile+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-mobile+help@opensuse.org

I don't think so. Try "rmmod hci_usb" (you might need to rmmod uhci_hcd first; reload it after unloading hci_usb) and the load hci_usb with modprobe hci_usb reset=1 I have read on the bluez-devel mailinglist, that this solved a similar problem on a different dell model, see also https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257303 Can you post "lsusb -v" and check if this is also a broadcom 2045 dongle (might also show up in /var/log/messages). -- Stefan Seyfried QA / R&D Team Mobile Devices | "Any ideas, John?" i did "hid2hci" as root. it says: "No devices in HCI mode found" i tried: /etc/init.d/bluetooth start rmmod hci_usb modprobe hci_usb reset=1 hid2hci but this didn't help either. no matter what i do, there are no bluetooth devices.

Report it on the bluez mailinglists. The experts for those kinds of problems are there. -- Stefan Seyfried QA / R&D Team Mobile Devices | "Any ideas, John?" i found a workaround: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2464779 there is a software called "vista-profile-pack" which installs a new firmware to the bluetooth device to support bluetooth-mouses and keyboards at bios-time. and after that installed, the linux drivers only see that mouse & keyboard, and can't handle the device as normal bluetooth-device. i had to downgrade firmware, to make it work under linux. it now works under linux, but not under vista any more. but i can/must live with that, until the linux-drivers are aware of the new firmware..... -- einen schönen Tag noch, & bitte kein TOFU (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-mobile+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-mobile+help@opensuse.org
