Hi all, I would like to ask You, if somebody knows how to activate subj. To be concrete, I have Dell Inspiron 8600, suSE 9.2. My wish is to have a possibility to collect somehow a key with an application. I have seen some tries, but only as kernel module. Thank You -- Mara mkonfery@seznam.cz

Open a konsole in KDE, type xev (enter) and see what happens, if you press any of the multimedia-buttons. Volumen up should give you something like XF86AudioRaiseVolume. If so, You can go into kcontrol > regional settings > keyboard layout and pick a multimedia keyboard, e.g. Logitech Internetnavigator. Done this, you can assign the multimedia-keys to e.g. kmix. Simply open the mixer-window, right-click on the icon above the master-volume > assign keys. Then click on an entry in the offerd list, followed by a click on the grey square at the bottom of that window, use the key you want to assign, done. Sven

Or just pick "Laptop/Notebook Dell Inspiron 8xxx" on an Inspiron 8600 :-) -- Stefan Seyfried

.Xmodmap in your home directory: <FILE> !! Inspiron 8600 special keys keycode 160 = XF86AudioMute keycode 174 = XF86AudioLowerVolume keycode 176 = XF86AudioRaiseVolume keycode 162 = XF86AudioPlay keycode 164 = XF86AudioStop keycode 144 = XF86AudioPrev keycode 153 = XF86AudioNext </FILE> then load it with xmodmap .Xmodmap Now in any application, which can assign keycodes, you can use the special keys. Have also a look at khotkeys for funny features. To load the keys automatically save this line as .kde/Autostart/dell.sh and make it executable: <FILE> xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap </FILE> And have a look at my homepage :-) http://www.hilzinger.hu/ch/linux.html I will make a big update for 9.3... -- Üdvözlettel -- Mit freundlichen Grüssen, Marcel Hilzinger
A lot of thanks to both, now I'm a happy user of multimedia notebook :-) Mara On Wednesday 09 February 2005 11:50, Marcel Hilzinger wrote:
