[opensuse-marketing] The new OBS
By now, many of you know that our recommendation to change openSUSE Build Service to Open Build Service. This is a great moment for us as this will now help us to further promote the awesome benefits that OBS provides to the FOSS world. Read the announcemens here: http://news.opensuse.org/2011/05/26/opensuse-renames-obs/ http://www.novell.com/prblogs/?p=3787 Several of us have worked on getting things ready for the new name. Already some press have picked up on the news and we're hoping it brings in more eyes to our wonderful openSUSE Project. Things to do: - Clean up Wiki - We need to continue to sort through our wiki pages and change any text that refers to "openSUSE Build Service" to "Open Build Service". Please help us out by going to [1] and edit any pages you find. Many pages have already been cleaned up, but the more people help, the quicker we will inish everything. - Update our materials - We need to clean up any marketing materials we have. Examples are slide presentations, print materials, flyers etc. Change names and links where appropriate. - Get familiarized! -- Visit the new openbuildservice.org website and get to know it. - Review Talking Points -- As the whole point of the name change was to increase awareness that OBS isn't just for openSUSE, let's make sure our talking points highlight the many benefits that folks outside of openSUSE can gain from using OBS - Training -- I believe this is an idea that Chuck had recently. We should develop at least basic training to our ambassadors and marketers about how to use and understand OBS so that we can answer questions with more knowledge when we meet people out there. So jump in and let's keep the momentum rolling! Thanks folks! No, the title itself is correct. build.opensuse.org is the openSUSE Build Service - and runs an instance of the Open Build Service, Open Build Service is the name of the software that runs. You can see that software live in action on the openSUSE Build Service, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE aj@{novell.com,suse.com,opensuse.org} Twitter/Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Excellent point. I didn't think about the multi-language sites. How do we appraoch that? Any suggestions?

Andreas -- Correct. We leave b.o.o alone. Any changes within b.o.o, we'll leave to the BuildService team to think about changes. Although if there are specific "marketing" related text that you think should be changed or improved, send a suggestion to Adrian and the team there.

These pages will stay with "openSUSE Build Service" as long they speak about our concrete instance. Just the technical implementation has been renamed. -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH email: adrian@suse.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

pretty misleading. Shouldn't this be "openSUSE OBS?, just to make clear the "O" is no more for openSUSE? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Yes, it probably should. But the build.opensuse.org instance is kind of "THE OBS", you know? 27.000 users, 120.000 packages - it's huge. Kind of a reference implementation. And we run it - trow money at it - etc. So the team wants to keep that as 'openSUSE Build Service'. I get that...
