[opensuse-marketing] Tweeting our way into people's hearts...
Greetings Marketing team! I want to encourage everyone to do one simple thing (and many of you are probably already doing this) to help your fellow openSUSE users out - and those that are maybe not yet involved in the openSUSE community. The way I'm doing it, and I think this can be a good, easy, and quick thing that we can all do, is using your Twitter client of choice (I use Gwibber and Tweetie for my phone), set up a search for "openSUSE". Then check on it even just once a day. If a person mentions they're trying out openSUSE, welcome and thank them. Give them important links, like to the Communicate page for support, or our own Twitter account (@openSUSE). If someone has a question, help them out. Even just pointing them to the forums or IRC rooms can help. If someone says they're uninstalling openSUSE, still thank them for trying us out and wish them luck on whatever OS they choose. The goal isn't to 'spread openSUSE' (aka don't spam Twitter, though getting into the Trending Topics would be nice, though we'd have to beat AT&T, iPhone, and Michael Jackson. It could happen ;-) ), but instead to give people the impression that the openSUSE Community is inviting, caring, and all around awesome ;-) -- Kevin "Yeaux" Dupuy openSUSE Project Member Sent from Kevin Yeaux's mobile device. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Sadly i haven't understand all. So i'll ask you. I'm reading #opensuse and there who i'm following. You mean the #opensuse Group in Twitter or mean you another? -- Sincerely yours Sascha Manns openSUSE Ambassador openSUSE Marketing Team openSUSE Build Service Web: http://saschamanns.gulli.to Project-Blog: http://lizards.opensuse.org/author/saigkill Private-Blog: http://saschasbacktrace.blogspot.com

You mean the #opensuse Group in Twitter or mean you another? Yeah, I didn't clarify that point :-)
What I meant is that most Twitter clients (and if you go to http://search.twitter.com
) and just search "openSUSE" (without the hashtag), those posts. Then
just find the posts who are just coming into the product or have
questions.
If one is already in the #openSUSE group, more than likely they're
already involved in the project in some way :-)

Welcome ! I am - and I'm sure others are also - glad to have you as our compania. ;-)

What are the most popular and active communication media among people who have interests in computing in your country ? Are there any popular social networking services, mailing lists, forums ? If Twitter-like micro blogging services are not popular in your country, why don't you join such communication media first and spread the word ? I think it's a good idea to join local Linux user groups, if there are some. Blogging your personal experiences and impressions on using openSUSE would be also nice. And, don't forget ! The most important thing for promoting openSUSE is being kind to others as Kevin wrote in this thread. ;-) In my case, for example, I subscribe not only to openSUSE related mailing lists and forums but also to general Linux related ones. I try to answer the questions from newbies in those lists and forums as far as I can, and, if they are not satisfied with other distro, I would recommend them to try using openSUSE. There are many ways to spread the word and promote openSUSE. I hope you'll tell us your experiences, thoughts and ideas that you come across, so that we can share them. :-D
Thanks a lot, and sorry about my english!

Hi Kevin i believe it's an awesome idea, but we shouldn't forget about the other Twitter clones, like Identi.ca and other Laconica one's like floss.pro I have noticed that people often share thoughts on "Installing" or "trying to get working" I believe that giving a link to the wiki helps them a great deal. http://floss.pro/tag/opensuse and http://identi.ca/tag/opensuse and http://search.twitter.com/search?q=opensuse For all these there is a RSS Feed. May we should put a share this page on "Twitter/other" button on each page off the wiki ?
