It's very informative, good work. It would be easier on the eyes if the boxes formed by the elements lined up a bit better, and fewer font sizes were used - I see you're aiming to fit everything in. The cheat sheets I have tacked to the wall here use a column layout with topics that don't fit on one column flowing into the next, allowing a more efficient use of space - there aren't any large areas of whitespace where no subject 'box' fits. Great Work Chuck
Can I have the source files so that I can make a Greek edition of it?
I can print it and send it over to various Greek LUGs

Hi Chuck, very nice work. Here is my constructive suggestions / hints / opinion: * The lower box titled "Using the Shell " might be right justified with the "zypper box". * In the box "Community Resources" is the link "Lizards" displaced. * The gray frame of "openSUSE Community Resources" is not at the bottom left- justified. * OpenSUSE is not written with a small o? I'm not sure. But I would not like to start a fundamental discussion about it. To me it does not really matter. :) Thank you for this nice poster. I think I'm going to a printshop and let me print on A1. Greetings Jan Am Dienstag, 18. Januar 2011, 10:40:16 schrieb Chuck Payne:

Awesome! And Helen is telling me she's all over it to add some nice artwork to it, really cool. As reminder, we're going to get about 50.000 posters out to readers of linux magazine, double-side printed. One side should have this cheat sheet, one side a cool 11.4 poster. Robert will take care of the final layout and sending it to linux magazine...
Chuck, Robert might want the source files for this. Robert, the white space is a little scattered, would you like to take a preliminary look at layout, maybe 'tweak' the arrangement a little bit, to one or two larger blank spaces rather than many small ones if possible. I have a design for a Chameleon hanging around the top and side of a box that could work. I'd prefer that than having small cliparts all over. However I could do some small icon-like drawings as an alternative. I welcome other ideas. If I know where the free space is I can design the art to fit it. best, Helen

Inkscape, Gimp and a program called Artrage that I have on my mac.
It's a nice little program with a realistic interface - you can pin
references around your work just like you would in real life. Oh also
I found an online SVG 'translator' to vectorize my drawing
http://www.roitsystems.com/cgi-bin/autotrace/tracer.pl
However I am *so* not a designer - I mostly use pencil and watercolor.
So a bit of a learning curve. Also my work is usually a naturalistic
look, not the crisp cartoon style that we use for illustration.
I don't know how it got from "I'll take a look and see if I can come
up with something" to "Helen assures me she's all over it...."
I'm thinking of doing some photo-editing instead, there's a few nice
public domain images which will look good with a green background.
However I keep hoping Robert will wave a magic wand....
(meanwhile trying to get my drivers sorted on the desktop so I can
actually apply some processing power....)
cheers

At the moment trying to import Chuck's work to Scribus for easier fine
tuning and alignment.
I think keeping graphics simple and elegant is best - looking at
things like leafy or abstract backgrounds with glossy bar/buttons for
headers perhaps.
If anyone else wants to work with it do go ahead, and post it back
here when you've made some progress.
cheers

Helen just a quick note, with a black & white sketch, there's a way to vectorized it in inkscape
One of the tutorial http://inkscape.org/doc/tracing/tutorial-tracing.html
