[opensuse-marketing] Long article on how to participate
Ages ago we wrote this article on how to participate (especially for non-coders). It's not finished yet. I'd been thinking of developing each section into a full length short article for a magazine series but never had the time to do anything with it. Given the current discussion on new user participation, I wondered if it was worth doing something with. Open to ideas. find it here: http://piratepad.net/jNxlTtU8EB (also, do you remember the long OBS article we wrote and translated a while ago, did that ever find a home? It would be a shame for it to just disappear.) -- IRC: helen_au helen.south@opensuse.org helensouth.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org
I think it's the start to something really great. I don't know how
others feel about it, but it could be interesting to add to the "How
to Participate" page as something of a "New Contributors Starter
Guide". http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:How_to_participate
As a semi-new user still myself, when I have questions I have a person
or two (or three) I can send an email to or find on IRC that help me
with those questions and guide me along; That is very helpful. I would
like to help by documenting all of this experience similar to what you
did and then I can share it with you and combine the information to
make a nice little guide newbies can use to get started and subside
some of the "cold feet" syndrome many encounter that prevent them from
becoming active contributors. Among the many things I like to (or
would like to) do with the project is help recruit and guide more new
contributors to the project.

Hey Helen,
Thanks for this, never knew it existed, same goes for the Marketing One.
Do you think we should keep on updating wiki of all the pirate pad
links we have.
Regards
Manu

I think it was agreed that Piratepad for various reasons is less than ideal - I just used it because it's convenient. Jos took care of the OBS article a while back, finalized it as office document, and it was translated into several languages by contributors and sent to someone in SUSE I think. I don't have any other in-progress pieces other than this current contribution one. I just was using Pirate Pad for myself as it is a convenient place to work if I want to easily share with someone. I'll try to help finish it off if I can but would like to pass it on to someone else if possible due to some personal situation. I don't really mind how/where/if it's used. Just note that the comments from various translators are verbatim from emails and will need to be edited and integrated into a sensible context. Insights from people who are hands-on involved in areas are always good I think. Photographs from recent events would be suitable accompaniments. -- IRC: helen_au helen.south@opensuse.org helensouth.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org
Hey Helen,
I would like to do it. I had a couple of ideas too. I will dump them
there itself. And I would this to the wiki. It seems to me that the
wiki is a better place for such an article than anywhere else. News
articles are usually read and forgotten or how about both.
But we still need yours or Jos's final words since you are too good at
article writing. Also, I have gone through the article, is there
anything you would like to add, If you have pointers please let me
know so that I can think of something and write that too.
Thanks
Manu

That's truly awesome. It would be nice to have the translators' names with it too, they should be credited for their work. Jos sent it to someone in the SUSE offices I think.... -- IRC: helen_au helen.south@opensuse.org helensouth.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org
