scim: Chinese input server: new package for SuSE Linux 8.2.
Quite a while ago there was a thread about a Pinyin input method for
Chinese which is smarter than the the one included in xcin. SCIM has
such a smart Pinyin input method.
Packages for SCIM (``Smart Common Input Method platform'') are now
available for SuSE Linux 8.2:

More information about SCIM can be found on it's home page at
http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/index.html
Basic usage instructions are here:
http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/document.html
To make SCIM start automatically when your X11 session is started in a simplified
Chinese locale (i.e. when the effective value of LC_CTYPE starts with zh_CN), just
download the following file
http://www.suse.de/~mfabian/misc/xim
and copy it to ~/.xim.
The "Smart Pinyin input method" for SCIM is not open source but binary
rpm-packages can be downloaded from
http://ns.turbolinux.com.cn/~suzhe/scim/download.html
The package build for UnitedLinux 1.0 also works for SuSE Linux 8.2 and also for SLD:
