For SLES 7, are there or will there be other languages supported besides English and German. DBCS languages inparticular?
From a technical point of view, it is no problem at all for us to add support for Japanese and basic support for Korean and Chinese as well. Everything necessary is available already in SuSE Linux 7.2.
This is true for the IA32 platform. What should be used to complete the Far Eastern environments on other platforms where there is no 7.2 release, such as IA32, PPC32 and /390? The SLES 7 IA64 and the SLES 7 S390 are based on SuSE Linux 7.2 as
well.
The IA64 and S390 people told me that there was a 7.2 release and
(almost) all stuff available for SuSE Linux 7.2 for IA32 is available
for IA64 and S390 as well. For IA64 and S390 there are 'SLES 7' CDs
available and 'Developer Edition' CDs. The 'Developer Edition' CDs
should contain almost everything from SuSE Linux 7.2 including
packages for Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
For PPC there is no SLES 7 yet. It will probably be released early
next year and it will be based on SuSE Linux 7.3-PPC. The SLES 7 for
PPC CD-set will always be distributed together with a 'Developers
Edition' SuSE Linux 7.3-PPC CD-set (which is a complete SuSE Linux
7.3-PPC), packages which are missing on the SLES 7 PPC CD-set can be
added from the 'Developers Edition' CD-set, they should be compatible.
