[opensuse-kernel] https://en.opensuse.org/Kernel omits desktop-base
kernel-default-base on the mirrors runs very roughly 40% the size of kernel-default. Who is the smaller designed for? What does the larger have that the smaller doesn't? The page doesn't say. Can a simple/minimal EXT4 *86 PC installation get by on just the smaller? Last edit there was 2013, so it still includes kernel-desktop. :-( -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Let me look for you: --- zypper if kernel-default-base Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Information for package kernel-default-base: -------------------------------------------- Repository : openSUSE-20150318-0 Name : kernel-default-base Version : 4.14.13-1.4 Arch : x86_64 Vendor : openSUSE Installed Size : 85.8 MiB Installed : No Status : not installed Source package : kernel-default-4.14.13-1.4.nosrc Summary : The Standard Kernel - base modules Description : The standard kernel for both uniprocessor and multiprocessor systems. This package contains only the base modules, required in all installs. --- A kernel with only "the base modules" is unlikely to work on any system which requires additional modules. In other words kernel-default-base is most useful for VM installations where modules to support real hardware are often unnecessary -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org
