Hello list, I'd like to display only specific device icons on the desktop. The usual way to activate the device icons is right click -> Configure Desktop -> Behaviour -> Show Device Icons. That work's fine. Now I would like to enable only specific devices to be shown on the desktop, eg. if one enables show mounted partitions is there a way to choose the partition which should be displayed? And if so, can one also change the name which is displayed on the desktop? Thanks for any hints. Darko

Try the following Rightclick on desktop Select "create new device" Select the type required (hard disc) Enter the appropriate information. Andrew ------------------------------- Jabber: acolvin@jabber.org MSN: apc@abcj.demon.co.uk ICQ: 44775817

Thanks for this hint. That forks fine. But I have still the problem to display hotpluggable devices such as memory sticks or usb hard disks which have more than one partition. In my particular case, I'd like to display an icon on the desktop only if the usb disk is plugged in. The problems occurs if I only want to display a certain partition on the desktop instead all four of them. I found the following config file: $HOME/.kde/share/config/kio_drivesrc I guess it is connected to the display of specific device icons, but I have no idea how to modify it ... Thanks again for any ideas... Darko

.kde/share/config/kio_drivesrc Can't help you with this.
You could create an entry in your fstab for the device so it has a fixed name. Don't know if it works try it and let us know; maybe others know. Andrew ------------------------------- Jabber: acolvin@jabber.org MSN: apc@abcj.demon.co.uk ICQ: 44775817
Hi Andrew,

I have deactivated subfs and I'm unsing now only the fstab entries to mount the devices - that works fine. Unfortunately this is not the best solution for usb devices such as my usb-stick or cf-flash cards. Depending of which one is inserted first, it gets a different device name, for instance /dev/sda* or /dev/sdb*. On the other side fstab holds a fixed device name e.g. /dev/sda1 /media/usbstick . Thanks anyway, I will try if I can change something with the udev rules, as soon I as have a solution I will post the solution. (But still...any ideas are welcome :-) ) Darko
