Hello! I am using two SuSE versions on the same PC: 9.3 and 10.0. I updated both of them with the supplementary-packages from ftp.gwdg.de, which means that both versions are now using KDE 3.5.0 level a. Both version are using the same /home-partition. I am havin problems with font sizes. When I log on with the same user, fonts on 10.0 appear much bigger than on 9.3. The font settings in the control center are exactly the same (should be if both are using the same /home-partition...). The resolution is also exactly the same. Both versions were updated with the nvidia drivers via yast online update (although I am not quite sure if 10.0 configured them correctly - and I am writing this mail with 9.3, so no check possible right now). Can anybody here think where the problem is? Greets, Dennis Neumeier

This could be part of the problem. Try creating a new user "testA" in 9.3 and one "testB" in 10.0. This will create 'pristine' desktop environments, from scratch, for each user. You can then compare each to the other (file/dir structure & config files) and to the existing/dual-purposed user account for differences. As a start, make sure each is configured to the same dpi. From a shell: xdpyinfo | grep resolution regards, Carl

A new user on 10.0 had the same big fonts. The other point you proposed is more helpful:

Here, I get two different outputs: 9.3: resolution: 95x96 dots per inch 10.0: resolution: 108x113 dots per inch This seems like this may be the problem. The question is: How do I change the resolution on 10.0? Greets, Dennis

You would usually log out of the desktop, do a Ctl+Alt+F1 to get to a console, log in as root, do an "init 3" to switch run levels (shutting down X) then run "sax" (SaX2) to define/refine the display properties. However, I had a similar problem and could not get YaST2/SaX2 under 10.0 to replicate my preferred 9.3 configuration. I tried several times, too. Eventually, I just moved 10.0's xorg.conf to xorg.bak and copied my 9.3 xorg.conf over. It worked for me, but YMMV (standard disclaimer.) regards, Carl

Dennis, You can set this in xorg.conf via the DisplaySize setting. See the following interesting discussion for soma background information http://dot.kde.org/1138743149/1138769674/ An incorrect setting will very often show when you use mozilla within KDE. See for the solution to your question how-to set the dpi the following page. http://www.mozilla.org/unix/dpi.html When confronted with font issues it also will help if you run as root: fonts-config -f fc-cache HTH, Peter Vollebregt
I just found out what went wrong on my SuSE 10.0 and it´s something very important I think. Wondering why the OpenGL screensavers on my 10.0 system wouldn´t show up, I checked the installation of the nvidia-driver - which was not correctly installed! So there has to be a problem somewhere installing them via Yast Online Update. I downloaded the actual drivers from www.nvidia.de and installed them manually - and now, the resolution is the same as on my 9.3 system. Is there any way to inform somebody of the YOU-Team about that? Greets, Dennis
