[opensuse-kde] KDE SC 4.4 initial nitpicks
These are some initial problems I've noticed while testing KKFD. openSUSE specific: * The Application Launcher does not have a non-super-user dolphin. See System->File Manager-> * Configure Desktop->Multimedia does nothing? No multimedia window is launched. * Oxygen is still not supporting all icons used in non-KDE applications. i.e., evolution send/receive icon is empty. This can be fixed by what oxygen icons are inherited from (such as tango instead of hicolor) or something more complete. * Firefox is not the default browser. Non-openSUSE but usability issues: * Akregator is not keeping it's previous dimensions when docked in the system try. This must be a regression bug since it happened in a previous version. * How do I change the plasma theme? Great work packaging all this!! Thanks! That actually makes sense. I kept trying to find it in Desktop Activity settings. Then in Advanced there is a desktop theme details, but that doesn't let you switch themes. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

*nothing* four levels deep makes sense. Desktop_settings -> themes makes sense. Is anyone at kde4 looking at actually rethinking the control scheme? d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Sven, this is something so basic, it should have been set a couple of years ago;. you know, the time when people were desperately trying to reach the kde4 gods, the time that they were turning us off literally and figuratively, for they knew best!!!! Now it probably would be too complicated to create a fresh new control structure for kde4, after the fact it will be a thankless patch on patch on patch job.... if i am still alive, i will try to help with kde5. for now, my hat is off to Dotan and co, they are desperately trying to undo a major bungle, sure hope they succeed. all kde4 users should help him. Unfortunately (fortunately for me:)) i gave up on kde4 after my 3rd re-install of 11.1 in 3 days, almost a year ago. so i get to smile when the major discovery of the day is that, alnmost a year later, with a phd in computer science AND lots of practice, one can now change the background on diff. kde4 desktops!!!! thank God for open source and the choices it allows! d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

So much babble just to say you gave up on KDE4 and are only here for your rants, I'd rather spend my spare time in a different way... Karsten -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I have both super-user and normal user dolphin in my menu (KDE4.4.0). Have a look in /usr/share/applications/kde4/, i've got dolphin.desktop and dolphinsu.desktop (owned by dolphin-4.4.0 rpm).
* Configure Desktop->Multimedia does nothing? No multimedia window is launched.
Works for me, this is meant to be the phonon device and backend configuration, which backend do you have installed? Regards, Tejas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Works for me as well, i.e. shows the phonon settings. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I was using Xine in 4.3.5. I wiped ~/.kde4 to see what the defaults were. Zypper dup'd to Factory. My results are posted previously. -- Marc Benstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

The multimedia window not launching was due to having mixed versions of phonon. Multimedia is now working as usual. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Then it was forgotten to add the "obsoletes" tag to the RPM (new packages with new names can obsolete old ones). File a bug at bugzilla.novell.com for 11.3 Am Dienstag 16 Februar 2010 18:28:36 schrieb Marc Benstein:
