[opensuse-kde] Plasma 5.8pre -> Factory?
Hi, With Plasma 5.8 coming closer how about submitting towards Factory already? It would stay in staging for a while but we'd get the new stuff exposed to reviews like factory-auto and legal already. That way we probably have a chance for some pre 5.8 for 42.2 Beta2? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I agree that Plasma 5.8 should be submitted as early as possible, but there are not even tars available yet. AFAICS, the earliest date some non-git packages can be made is Sep 15. Even those are beta, so it's not planned for TW. (Staging shouldn't be a problem though). I guess we could submit the beta packages to 42.2 while leaving TW at 5.7.4 for those two weeks. Cheers, Fabian

Isn't it good enough to test KDE:Unstable, e.g. as we do for Krypton? As discussed today offline, we could add a test to openQA for the "Krypton" product group to upgrade from "Tumbleweed to Krypton", i.e. add KDE:Unstable repos to the latest Tumbleweed image. We could do the same for Leap, too, e.g. add a openQA test to use the latest Leap 42.2 build, take the installed image, update the plasma to KDE:Unstable (more or less equivalent to "Argon"). Of course, this is not about building but "only" runtime tests. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Sure, but we could have git based packages until actual tarball releases are created, right? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Sure, but we need to adjust all the specs not to search for translations, plus bundle-lang will need adjustments too. openQA-ing krypton does not help? Cheers, Hrvoje

I would agree with Hrvoje here. The spec-files for the git packages would cause a lot of work before and after. From the original message my understanding is if the kde team could submit new packages earlier to factory in order to get the legal review done. I am not sure if there are new packages in either Frameworks or Plasma ? I believe that the main package generator is KDE Applications, which we got reviewed for KDE Apps 16.08, which is the target for Leap. These got already submitted. The next step could be to submit the betas for the targetted Frameworks and Plasma releases to Factory for reviews. However I fail to see how this would help ? Packages will still change afterwards which would trigger a new review. It is of tremendous help of course. Still, staging and the various automated Factory reviews have the potential to bring up other issues. My naive assumption was that the Krypton iso is based on packages built from git, so I thought it should be straight forward to submit :-) Are Krypton packages different from the packages built from tarballs? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, in various ways: - Some packages have a different name (kmail5.spec -> kmail.spec) - Translations live in a separate repo and thus aren't built - Sometimes different build options if it can optionally build against something not yet released - They are only built with Qt 5.7 (from git as well) It might be a good idea to clean that up and make it at least script-friendly to convert the spec files, but it's not a small undertaking. For Plasma, which lives in KDE:Unstable:Frameworks, the first point shouldn't apply, but it's still not close enough AFAICS. Also, the branding is currently only half-baked, so I haven't submitted that into the repo yet, which means it's identical to upstream. It should be complete (same level as 42.1, so no new graphics) on the weekend though. What could be done (I guess) is to run a script on all Plasma packages, localrun the service temporarily and submit that to 42.2. Would that be ok? I wonder how the users/testers would react to the unreleased-ness of Plasma in the next version... Cheers, Fabian

As an addition: we often test patches from upstream before they are committed to gather feedback (there are a few right now). So some patches come and go. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B
