Well... In my case, with KDE4.2 from factory and even UNSTABLE on opensuse11.1, it works pretty well without compiz. I do not know which dependency brings it in, but anyways zypper lets remove it without complaining. Shoud be fine to remove all that, I did and haven't noticed anything being broken because of that. The package compiz-kde is the kde window decorator for compiz and thus something that's need by compiz and not by kde.
