[opensuse-kde] Amarok won't play music
I asked on amarok@kde.org mailing list and searched http://old.nabble.com/Amarok-f25279.html without finding useful info. My Amarok won't play music, giving these errors by the app: failed to connect: connection refused could not initialize supporting library Another much longer message flashes on startup, but I see no way to read the whole thing before it disappears. Anyone know how to recover and read startup messages? Songs "finish" as soon as started. No sound ever comes out. The only Google hit I got was http://blog.oxxus.net/archives/date/2007/09/page/93 which predates openSUSE 11.0. Tail of .xsession-errors has: Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x4e00001 QLayout "unnamed" added to QVBox "unnamed", which already has a layout QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow QObject::connect: Incompatible sender/receiver arguments StarManager::ratingsColorsChanged() --> ContextBrowser::ratingOrScoreOrLabelsChanged(const QString&) Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp.. Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp. I use openSUSE 11.0, KDE 3.5.9, amarok-1.4.10-104.pm.105.7 & matching amarok-yauap. Configure Engine shows GStreamer/Yauap engine. RPM query shows gstreamer, ...lang, ...plugins (4 total), & libgstreamer-0_10-0-0.10.25-999.pm.1001.3. You can try to install libxine1-codecs from packman and amarok-xine. Gstreamer never worked well for me. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Eww. Thank god that'll be unsupported soon ;-)

God, sometimes they missed me a lot :-( (But it seems I've kde 3.5.10 ?)

Agree for the xine engine on this rock solid configuration :) -- Bruno Friedmann -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Turns out VLC wouldn't work any more either. I closed Skype after discovering sound coming from its headphones, reset sound in YaST2, and got VLC to work again, but not Amarok. After installing amarok-xine and amarok-packman and selecting xine engine Amarok works now too. I wonder if I dare try Skype again? Should there be any reason to leave gstreamer* installed? Is there any reason to have Kaffeine if VLC & Amarok are installed? -- "Suppos [sic] a nation in some distant region, should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . .
