There is no standard test on memory consumption that will compare different software groups. IMHO, majority of the talk on the net is just noise from technical point of view. Currently the only way to know how it works on your computer is to try. You can install KDE4 on 11.0, and use Build Service repository to update to newest version. I did that for quite some time with openSUSE 10.3.
