KDE 3.1.4 -> 3.2 Update problems / missing libarts...
Hi, I tried to upgrade KDE from 3.1.4 to 3.2 on my SuSE 8.2 system using the rpm provided by SuSE, but I´m running into trouble updating kdemultimedia3-extra. Said package requires the following files, which I don´t have: libartsbuilder.so.0, libartscontrolsupport.so.1, libartsgui_idl.so.0, libartsgui_kde.so.0, libartsmidi_idl.so.0, libartsmodules.so.0, libartsmodulescommon.so.0, libartsmoduleseffects.so.0, libartsmodulesmixers.so.0, libartsmodulessynth.so.0 The libarts*-files used to be provided by the kdemultimedia package, but this is no longer the case. The current kdemultimedia3 rpms comprises: user@linux:~> rpm -ql kdemultimedia3 | grep lib /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_au.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_au.so /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_avi.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_avi.so /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_flac.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_flac.so /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_m3u.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_m3u.so /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_mp3.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_mp3.so /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_ogg.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_ogg.so /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_wav.la /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/kfile_wav.so Yes, I do have arts installed: user@linux:~>rpm -qa | grep arts arts-gmcop-1.2.0-2 arts-1.2.0-2 I was able to install/upgrade the following packages: kdebase3-kdm-3.2.0-7 kdeartwork3-sound-3.1.3-21 kdebase3-nsplugin-3.2.0-7 kdebase3-ksysguardd-3.2.0-7 kdeaddons3-kicker-3.2.0-12 kdemultimedia3-sound-3.2.0-8 kdemultimedia3-jukebox-3.2.0-8 kdeutils3-3.2.0-8 kdeaddons3-kate-3.2.0-12 kdemultimedia3-midi-3.2.0-8 kdeaddons3-konqueror-3.2.0-12 kdemultimedia3-3.2.0-8 kdebase3-3.2.0-7 kdemultimedia3-CD-3.2.0-8 kde3-i18n-de-3.2.0-0 kdelibs3-3.2.0-2 Does anybody know where to find the missing libarts*-files? -Markus

There's a program called pin that will search in an archive for particular files, and that's probably the tool you want to locate the missing ones. What I don't remember is how you point it at the archive for a particular collection of packages such as the ones on the SuSE ftp page for KDE 3.2. Perhaps someone else will chime in on that. Pin works for files/applications that come with the suse box. As the missing lib comes from a kde-3.2 app pin won't find it. However, you can use the procedure below instead to find the missing pkg: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/home.html#contents With this procedure the result is kdemultimedia3-video-3.2.0-8.i586.rpm is missing. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
