Hi! In my suse 9.2 i can't hear any mp3 or wma file.... The cd audio work fine. I have checked the soundcard and it works (for te time being plays all the kde sounds perfectly)... Xmms, amarok, noatun can't play the file.. I have noticed that all of these programmes recognize the file length of the track (i can move the progress bar of the song) but still when i press the play button nothins appears (like not having pressed it at all) What should i do? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? You need to tell xmms to use the arts plugin for audio output. In XMMS, right click on it, Options->Preferences In the Output Plugin select "aRts Output" or select "Automatic Detection" Here's a general tip I follow when sound doesn't work in an app, try executing the app on the console like: artsdsp <program name> Usually that will do the trick. That's how I got America's Army and other games (bzflag, etc.) to play sound. -- Alvin Please reply to only this mailing-list. Thanks.

I think the problem is the volume, at least on my system the volume comes up with a value of zero. Raimund

Type in a konsole alsamixer (or use the right mouse in kmix or kamix - the speaker in your kicker) and unmute (space in alsamixer) or increase the volume of the available choices. This sounds like the 'music' or 'wave' choice switched off. If this works save the volumes as root with 'alsactl store'. Peter Vollebregt
