Hi. I've downloaded the RPMs from SuSE to upgrade KDE to 3.2 from the 3.14 that ships with SuSE 9.0. I cannot finish installing the .RPMs as once I installed kdebase3 and removed old konqueror, kate, etc KDE 3.2 lost YaST as default installer for .rpm files. Anyone know the x app to call for YaST2? It appeared to be /sbin/YaST2 but it isn't working. I get the prompt to enter admin password, but nothing happens from then on. Alternatively, does anyone know the shell syntax for rpm to remove old conflicting copies as well as to install the new apps, etc? I am using rpm -ivh <file>.rpm it tells me the conflicting files but then bombs. Thanks Mike

Hi Thanks for the reply, but KPackage does not appear to be used with SuSE (KPackage is not included in the SuSE distribution. A search for RPMs showed versions for Red Hat and Yellow Dog, but nothing for SuSE). As to using RPM to install the files, yes, I used -U to get the remaining files installed. I noted that the file kdebase3-SuSE is NOT updated with the 3.2.x RPMs that SuSE provides. Nor could I find a 3.2.x update for the file with rpmfind or other on the net. When I attempt to use YaST (without Konqueror) to install kdebase3-SuSE it returns a file conflict with the old kdebase3 ver 3.1.4 files. After some thought it seems that there is a problem with X here and that the system is not allowing YaST as an XApp to come up with Konqueror. If anyone has any other suggestions they would be appreciated. Thanks Mike On Monday 31 May 2004 02:48, Thomas Janssen wrote:

Yes this package complains that it conflicts - what I did was force this 9rpm -ihv --force --nodeps). All seems OK (have been running for nearly a couple of months) but you don't seem to get the susewm but you do get the online update. Andrew On Monday 31 May 2004 12:40, Mike Blonder wrote:

To my mind it's better than Yast because it will read any folder with rpm's in it. NB you must run SuSEconfig from a terminal after you install anything.

Yes base3-SuSE wasn't updated for 3.2.1 but is back again in 3.2.2. You lose some desktop icons and auto-update but I did it manually once a week so it wasn't much of a problem
After some thought it seems that there is a problem with X here and that the system is not allowing YaST as an XApp to come up with Konqueror.
