[opensuse-kde] KMail2 Configuration HowTO
Hi guys, I'm new to KMail and KDE4 in general, I used to be a Gnome2 and Thunderbird user but I would like to give a try to all the "K" applications. I'm trying to setup my Gmail account with KMail but I'm facing a weird problem. Even though I've successfully configured KMail with the Gmail IMAP settings and the application lists all of my IMAP folders, no emails appear inside the folders. All the folders are completely empty. Every time I click on a folder KMail automatically starts syncing all of the IMAP folders again and again all over again and no emails ever appear. What am I doing wrong? Should I check any other configuration options? Any help will be appreciated. I use openSUSE 12.2 with the latest KDE4 build from the KR49 repositories. Hi guys,
I'm new to KMail and KDE4 in general, I used to be a Gnome2 and Thunderbird user but I would like to give a try to all the "K" applications.
I'm trying to setup my Gmail account with KMail but I'm facing a weird problem. All the folders are completely empty. Every time I click on a folder KMail automatically starts syncing all of the IMAP folders again and again all over again and no emails ever appear.
I've seen similar behavior with large mailboxes. It takes akonadi some time to sync up. In my case a ~17000 message mailbox took a few hours and that was on a local disk. You should try akonadiconsole it probably gives a better overview about what's actually already synced. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
How exactly can I check the progress of the sync procedure via akonadiconsole?

Hi Dimitrios, Ok... so you want to download all the messages too. As Gábor said that may take a while depending on your internet connection and how much data you have to download... plus one needs to index it... once you start akonadiconsole you shall see in the agents tab the agent representing your imap account saying something like syncing and the nepomuk feeder indexing too... regards, Alin On Thu 03 Jan 2013 22:04:45 Dimitrios Zarras wrote:

Alin, Akonadi Nepomuk Feeder is online but idle. Below its name it
says "System busy, indexing suspended".

Here's something else I found out. After taking a look at the
akonadiconsole at the job tracker I found lots of jobs related to the
IMAP account that stay at the Initial state and never progress.

Furthermore as time passes more task get added and the older one never
complete their jobs.

That seems to me an important clue. I'm also struggling with kmail2/akonadi and finding out stuff as I go along. Maybe just a coincidence, but I noticed that issuing an `akonadictl vacuum` in a terminal seemed to have helped with certain stuff, like stuck searches in kmail. If that doesn't help, you might want to remove the IMAP account in kmail or akonadiconsole and do "vacuum" again. Finally, a more radical step would be to remove all akonadi related config and data and start over. I've done this a few of times when I got the feeling that I'm stuck: rm -fr .config/akonadi/ rm -fr .local/share/akonadi/ All in all, akonadi/nepomuk/strigi etc... look interesting, but I'm not at all impressed with it for now. 7 out of 10 times I don't have a clue what is going on, like searches that complete after a minute or so. Or that they only do so when executing certain queries (search on subject works, but search on headers doesn't) Getting an overview is also hard: which component is doing what, how they work together etc...
I did something different which is also quite radical. I downgrade my KDE to 4.8.5. I removed the KR49 repos and I added the KDE Updated Apps and KDE Extras for openSUSE 12.2. After the downgrade everything started working out of the box without any problems. Could this be a bug/regression in KDE 4.9? I'm now using: Qt: 4.8.1 KDE Development Platform: 4.8.5 (4.8.5) "release 2" KMail: 4.8.5 -- Dimitris Zarras (feugatos) CEID Warfare | CS:GO, TF2 | ceidwarfare.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

No it wasn't. But how come after the downgrade everything started working normally? -- Dimitris Zarras (feugatos) CEID Warfare | CS:GO, TF2 | ceidwarfare.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
