After installing all the RPM's to upgrade KDE to 3.0.3 (using the base packages install, as recommended at http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/private/download/linuks/i386/update_for_7_1/bas e.html). Everything seems to have installed OK (apart from an OpenSSL issue, now fixed) but now I'm unsure how to actually USE KDE3. When I boot up to the login screen, there is no KDE3 option in the "session type" box. I can manually run KDE3 from within KDE2, but KDE2 (obviously) doesn't like it and kicks up a fuss. I'm running SuSE 7.1 Pro - this is a virgin install. Thanks anyone / everyone ... Then you need to add KDE3 to the KDM dialog box. It sounds like
you're using KDM 2 as the login manager. If that is the case, start
KDE 2 and then go to Control Panel|System|Login Manager. From there,
click on the Sessions tab and then use this tab to add kde3 (all
lowercase, no spaces) to the session list. It should be there at when
you log out.
If that doesn't work, perhaps the faq at
http://susefaq.sourceforge.net/kde.html may help.
