Hi All, I wonder if someone has the same problem or can help me. I am using SuSE 10.0 and the nvidia driver from YaST, but I do not have 3D I cannot even play TuxRacer :(. CPU: Pentium 4 2,4GHz RAM: 768 graphic card: GeForce2 GTS/Pro I have also tried running the nvidia run script. It complains that the source is not install. (This is not true). Looking into the log everything works upto the point of the module needs to be loaded.! The fun thing is that, glxinfo is reporting a SGI. And help would be apppricated. Regards Ian

The most recent drivers do not support legacy cards, e.g. GeForce 2. SuSE is not willing to supply the driver version that supports those via YOU, so you have to install it yourself. Look for the last driver that supports legacy cards, I think it was 7174, read the Suse-README and if the driver only works after installation but not after the next reboot, search google for makedevices.sh and complain to the README owner that this hint is still not in the README. You are right the 7174 creates the kernel module without a problem. Now Novells Kernel will not let me use it. When I try running "sax2 -m 0=nvidia" the x-server crashes. The error I get is from the kernel "unknow parameter NVreg_DeviceFileUID". Have you any futher ideas. With SuSE 9.2 this was not a problem.

Hi, Ok the problem is solved. I just need to follow section 21 on http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html#3 21. Support for legacy chipsets (GeForce2 and older) There it states install the nvidia installer remove /etc/modules.d/nvidia add the following entries to /etc/udev/static_devices.txt: nvidia0 c 195 0 666 nvidia1 c 195 1 666 nvidia2 c 195 2 666 nvidia3 c 195 3 666 nvidia4 c 195 4 666 nvidia5 c 195 5 666 nvidia6 c 195 6 666 nvidia7 c 195 7 666 nvidiactl c 195 255 666 And Hay walla it funks. Brille If under the title 10.0 it had said something about legacy drivers I would of see section 21 before hand. Tks for all your help. Ian <snip>
