[opensuse-kde] can't use kdenetworkmanager with KDE 4.3.1
Hi there, i tried to use kdenetworkmanager to manage my WiFi. But, when i right click on the icon in the taskbar I cannot access the menu.... it is totaly hidden behind the taskbar... It looks this way: http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5246/knetworkshot.jpg The menu / message from kdenetworkmanager disappears behind the taskbar.... How the heck can I access it now? Damn it... solved... the taskbar can be told to let windows stay on top of it. Still questions: how do I use kdenetworkmanager? When I open the KDE control center I can add wired connections, but the tab to add a wireless connection is greyed out... So, how can I add a connection there? I use a WLAN connection and would like to use the kdenetworkmanager to see the WiFi networks in my environment and the strength of my own. Does it work with nm-applet i.e. Gnome's NetworkManager client? Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Well, KDE 4.3.1 does not show the applet in the taskbar... but there is no error message either, nm-applet just says: ** (nm-applet:6320): WARNING **: No connections defined But, I was able to look in gnome-control-center in the "Network Connections" area, in contrast to Knetworkmanager there I was able to manually add a wireless connection, but I did not see my existing wlan0.... So, does one have to manually add connections or should existing wlan connections be detected automagically? knetworkmanager only lets you add connections if NetworkManager thinks you have a suitable network device. So I guess NM doesn't know you have wlan0. Use nm-tool or cnetworkmanager to check what hardware NM is reporting. I think I now found the source of the issue... when you setup your network in YaST you can chose to use traditional ifup method or networkmanager, I chose ifup. So this is why I may be unable to use Knetworkmanager, i just have to switch to Networkmanager in YaST. If you do not enable NetworkManager, how do you expect it to work? Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I did not know I have to specifically enable it :-) Since nowadays so much things happen automagically I thought fiddling with KDE would do the job... I just hope I now can switch my existing network setup to Networkmanager with YaST without messing it up...
