[opensuse-kde] Plasma 5.19 Digital Clock
With the new Plasma the Digital Clock apparently got changed to show the desktop widget without the widget background and invert the font color from black to white instead with a tiny shadow drawn around it. Now, I have a light gray background, so that really isn't very readable now. I can see no way of getting the old behaviour back, so is there something I can do in the config files perhaps? Long press on the widget (click and hold with the left mouse button) and click on the third icon from the top. This will restore the background. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team GPG key ID: A29D259B

Well, here's the next problem: I've had the widgets locked and the menu to unlock the widgets just doesn't show up anymore. Not on the widghets, not on the desktop and not on the panel… Regards, Achim. -- +<[Q+ Matrix-12 WAVE#46+305 Neuron microQkb Andromeda XTk Blofeld]>+ SD adaptation for Waldorf Blofeld V1.15B11: http://Synth.Stromeko.net/Downloads.html#WaldorfSDada -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Have you tried Customize Layout... in the Desktop context menu, or Alt+D, E? Cheers, Pete -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

These menu entries are not available with the widgets locked or to whatever setting that got translated with the Plasma update. Unlocking via the console gets that back, but the shortcuts don't work anyway since Alt+D doesn't wait for more input and just fires up the "Desktop Containment Settings". Unlocking via the console gets that back, but the shortcuts don't work anyway since Alt+D doesn't wait for more input and just fires up the "Desktop Containment Settings". AFAIK, that's fixed as well meanwhile, after the 5.18.0 release.
Should be in Tumbleweed in a week or so... Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

So I had to fire up the scripting console and run lockCorona(false) in it to get at that settings menu. Why would anyone remove the option to lock and unlock the widgets from the GUI? Why would anyone remove the option to lock and unlock the widgets from the GUI? TBH, why would anyone add it in the first place?
Personally I never saw a use for that and didn't want it to be turned on on my systems ever. (mainly because I do want to be able to paste things to the desktop, e.g.) But anyway, better ask the upstream developers that do change these things... ;-) Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

There's a continuum from Power User<->Supervised user<->Kiosk user. I guess you're at the left end of that spectrum, Kiosk users have the config locked down at a file level since KDE 2 times (and the UI changes to reflect that, but there is a use case in the middle for allowing unauthenticated changes via the UI, but having a safety lock to prevent unintentional changes. Krita had a dockwindow UI lock and removed it lock a few releases ago because they couldn't make it discoverable and were sick of bug reports, and now Plasma has followed suit. I used it for my kids, who manage to unintentionally destroy their Krita UI with a clumsy tap about once per session. It will remain to be seen whether they now start trashing their desktop layout too (although I could still poke it locked with an env.sh file...). Long press click on the clock widget so that the handle appears, then there is a Show Background button at the bottom.
