Having just updated to kde3.3 including the new cvs version of k3b I have found that my scsi cdwriter is only detected as a reader. When I regress the k3b package back to version 0.11.9 from the new 0.11.14cvs All my drives are detected properly (ide dvdrom as dvdrom, scsi cdwriter as cdr(w), ide dvdwriter as dvdram,dvd+-r, dvd+-rw). you just updated only kde to 3.3? did you updated kernel to 2.6.8 or newer? this version of kernel makes k3b dont detect the writer "as is"
No just kde and k3b - I am using suse 8.2. My dvd-writer is detected correctly just not my generic scsi cdwriter this is the device detected in 0.11.9: GENERIC CRD-RW2 System device /dev/sr0 (0,4,0) Interface Type Generic SCSI Vendor Generic Description CRD-RW2 Version 1.21 Writes CDs yes (new version said no) Writes CD/RWs yes (think new version said yes??) ... (had to manually copy so could have generated errors) I also have not changed any of the underlying tools with the regression just rpm -e k3b; rpm -Uhv k3b-0.11.9.rpm (something like that) I have a couple of version of cdrecord etc installed but failed to detect the writer as a writer with any version. I'm also experiencing the same problem as Andrew: k3b is considering my DVD Burner (NEC 1300A) not able to write CD-R (but able to write CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.). This is happening with SuSE 9.0, kernel 2.4.21-243-smp4G and k3b-0.11.14.cvs20040907-3 (RPM package updated via redcarpet). Previous version of k3b with same kernel were working perfectly... Of course my DVD burner is able to write CD-R infact I'm still able to do it with cdbakenoven. Any idea on how to solve it? thanks & regards, Timur _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Ouch!! Exactly same symptom on Suse 8.2...fortunately the previous k3b version which may still be on the website does work. Just rpm -e the recent cvs version move to your update_for_8.2/applications and rpm -i k3b-0.11.14-3.i586.rpm. It worked but I also removed the k3b config files in ~./kde/share/config to be sure. Dear all, after my recent upgrade to KDE 3.3, my Kpilot stop to syncronize my Palm data with Korganizer. I didn't change any configuration... Kpilot starts working and it is making backup of the applications/data from palm to the PC but the calendar syncronization is not working i.e. if I add a record on the palm or on the PC the information is not copied to the other device. The Korganized conduit is configured to sysk the standard calendar, but I also tried to change it to point to std.ics in the .kde director, but I got the same result. I'm using Kpilot rpm version for SuSE 9.0 (updated via red-carpet).
rpm -q kdepim3-kpilot kdepim3-kpilot-3.3.0-20
rpm -q kdebase3 kdebase3-3.3.0-8
Is anyone experiencing the same problem? Any idea on how can I fix it? regards, Timur __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - 100MB free storage! http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail
OK I have resolved this issue. After raising a bug report on bugs.kde.org and a discussion with Sebastian I downloaded the rpm that the k3b site links to from sourceforge. This rpm worked fine with no issues. The problem must be with the compilation that SuSe undertook (maybe it was some of their compile-time options). Suse had also turned off all debugging so we couldn't get any output to determine what was being recognised. If you want the newer version go to www.k3b.org. Not to throw this thread off topic, but I don't find that Jabber problem with Kopete. Kopete logs into Jabber service as easily as any other for me, chatting is not a problem either, so I'm not sure what problem you are experiencing? All the Jabber related files, including the actual kopete Jabber plugin, are missing from the InstantMessenger RPM in the supplementary feeds for SuSE 9.0 and earlier. The files are all there in the RPM for SuSE 9.1, so I extracted the missing files from the 9.1 RPM and manually installed them on my SuSE 9.0 box, using rpm2cpio and cpio. Extracting all the files and directories with 'jabber' (case insensitive) in the name somewhere seems to be enough. -- Colin Pinkney http://www.cpinkney.org.uk
Yes I have also done this and had to install libidn from suse9.1 dist for my 8.2 system. On the other system I didn't (it has been heavily modified and running since 8.2 first came out). I dont understand why SuSe didn't ensure these files were included with their latest build. Me thinks they don't really want to support the earlier products and want people to upgrade. I suppose it is about time I bit the bullet but I am a little apprehensive as I have so many updates (some rpm and some compiled) and I do not think it will go smoothly (experience I had the same situation when I migrated 7.2 to 8.0 and then to 8.2. Eventually I reinstalled 8.2 from fresh. Andrew On Thursday 16 September 2004 22:40, Colin Pinkney wrote:
