In the KDE Control Center there's a facility, it appears, for assigning modifiers to keys such as the Win key. You get to it via Regional and Accessibility / Keyboard Shortcuts / Modifier Keys. That screen has a panel entitled "X Modifier Map", which says which modifiers are associated with the various shift keys. The problem I have is that I can't figure out how to change the settings in the Modifier Map table. Clicking on it highlights a row, but nothing I type seems to have any effect on the table. What I'd like to do is to make the left Windows key be a Super shift and the right Windows key be a Hyper shift. Does anyone know how I can do that?

Click the button to the right of "Custom" and select the keys from the displayed dialog. HTH Dave

Hmmm. The window I see doesn't have a Custom button. At the bottom it has only a Defaults button, and there's nothing to the right of the table entitled "X Modifier Mapping". At the top there are two tabs: Shortcut Schemes and Modifier Keys. I wonder why we're seeing different things. Thanks for answering -- even more info would be much appreciated. Paul Abrahams

Sorry my mistake, I was talking about the "Shortcut Schemes" tab not the "Modifier Keys" tab. See the trouble you can get into trying to help ;) Dave

So can you figure out any way to change any of the information on the "modifier keys" tab (other than specifying Mac keys)? Paul

No, unfortunately not. I have never had a need to change anything in this tab and to tell the truth, I don't really understand what it's function is. Again, sorry I can't be of more help. Dave
