I have tryed a number of ways to 'edit' the Online Update server to point it to the KDE 3.2 directories. Without any success. I would rather not install the apt4 to do this, and wondered if I'm barking up the wrong tree. Any detailed help is appreciated to get kde 3.2 installed on my 9.0 system. Thanks Gord.
Sorry, not that detailed, but it seems that you are trying to place the server
in the wrong place. You have to change the installation source
(Yast2->Software->Change installation source), there you need to Add as an
extra installation source the server for KDE, enable it and place it above the
existing source (SuSE base) and then go on and Install/Remove software, search
for kde and upgrade the needed KDE pacjages to KDE 3.2. You should notice the
availablility of the KDE 3.2 packages.
Cheers,
Robert.

I see in the YaST2>Change Source of Installation>Software Source Media
the add, edit, delete , up, down Enable or Disable, it just the correct
syntax in the Server Name, and Directory on Server doesn't seem to read
the yast-source, something I'm probably omitting or entering
incorrectly.
Thanks

I haven't checked lately, but there were a couple of packages that conflicted that were SuSE specific (can't remember the name right now) and I've seen a few reports of poor or eratic performance. Have the SuSE packages been updated yet? What's the groups take on its performance/stability under SuSE 9.0? The packages that conflicted (and still do as far as I know) were kdebase3-SuSE (containing susewatcher, suseplugger, icons and menu entries specific to SuSE) and some SuSE help packages. Plus the kdenetwork-mail, since kmail has now been integrated in kdepim3. As for performance I am quite satisifed with KDE 3.2. It works quite well on my desktop (AMD XP 1800+, 512 MB RAM) and is a bit slow on my laptop (Intel Pentium III 700 MHz, 192 MB RAM). Some applications are not that stable yet, they still need to mature, for e.g. kontact or korganizer. Cheers, Robert. On Tuesday 09 March 2004 04:39, William Lugg wrote:

and its possible to install the kdebase3-SuSe after the upgrade again. Just install via Yast allow kdebase3-SuSe to be removed due to the conflict, copy the RPM from the FTP or take it from the cdrom and install manually. I don't use the plugger but the watcher works well, also the Icons and backgrounds are back again. when you try to install new software you always get the kdebase3-SuSe-Warning, 2 possibilities: always remove and reinstall, or say yast to ignore the conflict, I did this on one machine and had no problems until now Andreas

I use KDE 3.2 since 2 weeks. I had to re-install my Icons (I still use the classics) and I went through all my KDE-Settings. After this pro- cedure all things are fine! Only KNotes seems to be buggy, but I had this problem even in the former version... Some programs changed their RPM (e.g. KMail is now in KDE-PIM), so the update procedure may be a little bit confusing. Regards, Michael
