Hello! I successfully upgraded my SuSE 9.1 system to KDE3.3 after re-installing SuSE 9.1. I had made a full backup of my own home directory and managed in getting everything to work. However: If I log into the account (under KDE), which I restored, the login process takes forever. The first few steps are fast, but the "loading desktop" takes up to 2 minutes. Login into another fresh account (like the root account) is fast and instantaneous. After the "slow" account comes up, everything works as designed, but changing settings in for instance the desktop settings takes forever to show the menu. After restoring the home directory I chmodded and chowned everything to make sure the user id's were the same. Any hints, tips? (I have done this procedure before and then it worked like a charm) System: Athlon 1Ghz, 640Mb RAM, 60Gb HD. Cheers, Frits

I've read that before booting into a newly-upgraded KDE install, you should clear out /tmp/kde-[username] - Could be some old temp stuff causing the slowdown.

Habe ich versucht, hat nix gebracht ;-( Maybe I should try it again with a new fresh account and copy over the stuff i need. My gut feeling is still that KDE is looking for certain items it can not find due to the restore of the home directories. Cheers, Frits

When you're logged in, take a look at .xsession-errors, with any luck it will have relevant error messages that tell you what's going on Viel glück

Looked at it, didn't really help (apart from ALSA complaining about a broken pipe). Did a test with a new account. Was snappy and fast until I copied over a directory with a lot of background images and told KDE to use them. Immediately crawling. So, it must be something there. MIght be some settings on the pictures. Now experimenting with that. Anyone?
