[opensuse-kde] Knode 0.99 (KDE 4.2.0) virtually unusable?
Hello! I upgraded openSUSE 11.1 to KDE 4.2.0 release 83.1 with the unstable KDE repo. It comes with knode 0.99.x. Is my observation correct, that knode is very unstable? It often crashes when I try to send a message to a newsgroup, it even crashes when I try to chnage general settings like name or email address... to me it seems hard to be usable at the moment. I've seen a few KNode crashes on send too. And some general Kontact crashes also. Can't wait for 4.2.1 ;-) .. or 4.2.2 (which I bet on to be the first kick-ass KDE 4 release, after seing that 4.1 was still not quite "full featured") We should probably make an effort to report the problem with a proper backtrace and such, though... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

If you want KDE 4.2 (and associated apps), you want the Factory repo. That is, if I have understood all the emails that have been passed around on this ML, Factory contains 4.2 while Unstable contains KDE 4.3. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I am using openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.2 (from Factory) and Knode (from within Kontact) and I haven't had any problems with Knode. Could it be that you have knode from the unstable repo which could be the problem? Try the Factory repo and see if that clears it up. These are the URLs for the repos I am using: [KDE_KDE4_Factory_Desktop] name = KDE 4.2.x Packages (openSUSE_11.1) baseurl = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSU... [KDE_KDE4_Community] name = KDE4 community maintained KDE 4.x / Qt 4.x packages (openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Factory_Desktop) baseurl = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1... [KDE_Backports] baseurl = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Backports/openSUSE_11.1/ [KDE_KDE4_Factory_Extra-Apps] name = The (default) Factory KDE 4 desktop with extra apps (openSUSE_11.1) baseurl = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra- Apps/openSUSE_11.1/ Alvin -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Right, I missed that he was using UNSTABLE. My KNode crashes _are_ with the Factory repo though. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I have seen this yesterday, but after installing the last release of nvidia legacy driver: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/173.14.16/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.16-pkg0.run that and many other problems with combination of FX 5200 and KDE4 does not exist anymore. Few most annoying: - Plasma crashing 2-3 times in short period of KDE4 usage - When OpenOffice is opened icons are garbled, eventualy desktop goes black, closing it brings everything to normal. - slow screen drawing, - system tray icons needed quite some time to appear, and if something was changed redrawing was visible, one by one they would appear. Now with desktops effect enabled everything works much better then before without. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Yesterday's update of kdelibs4 (which is not built & synced out for all distros/architectures yet as of this moment) should help: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182322 Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
