[opensuse-kde] firefox problem
I am working with an out of support version of oS. I wanted to upgrade to a newer version of firefox. I downloaded the latest version, 23, and unpacked it to usr/lib. But what I got was version 16 when it was unpacked. What do you need to know to help me? What did I do wrong? The date of the executable in the bz2 of 23 is in 2013, but that of the installed is 2012. 16 was the last FF version available via the openSUSE updates system for 11.4. Apparently it is still installed and what your KDE menu points to.

You didn't follow instructions, or didn't follow the appropriate instructions. Your simplest solution should be to download http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.4/mozilla.repo into /etc/zypp/repos.d/ and then install 23 with YaST2. Actually putting the downloaded file in that location will require it be done via root access (root login or su or equivalent). Change 11.4 to whatever your installed openSUSE versions actually is if not 11.4. Unless you like the idea of the simplification of newer FF releases (i.e., fewer features, and UI more like Chrome and IE), I suggest you consider installing firefox-esr 17.0.8 instead. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
