can I import pegasus address? & is what is the file name? I see I can import message dirs. While I have your attention...is there a way to organize Kmail addressbook into separate sections; ie FRIENDS, FAMILY et cetera??? It's a PITA to find an address with 100 entries! AND last, but not least..is there a way to make changes, such as moving the colunms so one can read them and have them be permanent? -- Gracia...living in Cooleemee, NC Registered Linux user #263390 - SuSE 8 Pro yahoo....n 1: not very intelligent or interested in culture

AFAIK no tool exists to do this.
& is what is the file name? I see I can import message dirs.
The filenames have the extension .PM! and .PMR but the file-format seems to be proprietary, binary and undocumented so probably it won't be easy to write a migration tool without some support by Pegasus Mail development.

Although this is not you question: Pegasus Mail runs fine under wine... ;) Regards, Tobias.
Yo Tobias, Thanks, I know, but the point is I'm using linux, so why is kmail so DUMB!!! My Amiga mail client is fabulous...Pegasus is acceptable, Kmail stinks (sorry, I only speak the truth). All the smart linux programmers should be able to make a mail client that does what I ask. Really not a big deal. If I'm going to use an emulator, I'll use Amiga's YAM. Maybe the Kmail developers should look at it.

Yo Ben,, I think you misunderstood me...I realize that one can't import a proprietary file & that pegasus is very pissy about it's wonders ;^)...what I say is dumb is the way kmail is designed. It is ridiculous to not be able to have different dirs for addresses or to edit it to one's preference. Why is the email address the 1st colunm? I want the name 1st! What do you do with 100 addresses!!!? Sure it's alphabetical, but sometimes I can't remember a name, but I usually know what list they are on, plus it's easier to find a name in a shorter list. Why does the addressbook default to business addresses & phones? The point I'm making is Kmail should be more flexable & easier to configure & to save. I know it's evolving, but I would have thought that would be the 1st thing to design!

Go out and download KDE 3.1-rc2 (final in a few days) and stop trolling. Thanks;-( -- Dieter Nützel Graduate Student, Computer Science University of Hamburg Department of Computer Science @home: Dieter.Nuetzel at hamburg.de (replace at with @)

Yes, I did misunderstand. My apologies. :) About why KMail does what it does...*shrug*..I'm a mutt user. It does what you discribed..but it's a console based email client like pine and elm. :) Sorry again :) Regards, -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. KMail can not import Pegasus email's format because it's proprietary
Sorry, but I guess this is incorrect and that you missed the point: - kmail _can_ import Pegasus email-folders (and up to now nobody has been sued... :->), in adddition Pegasus offers Unix-mailbox-format as an alternative to its proprietary format. - the OP asked for an import-filter for address-books - the inpolite way the OP is treating kmail refers to the usability of kmail. I don't like the way of her critics but I understand the reason very well. For someone who has worked with Pmail before kmail has got some disadvantages and so it would be a move backwards at the moment.
and if the format is reverse engineered in some cases the developer doing the reverse engineering can be jailed under the DMCA. The guy
AFAIK there is no DMCA in NZL. ;)

He has some doubts about quality of open source products that everyone who like can read on http://www.pmail.com/sundry/pmlinux.htm and for this reason the source won't be given to the public. Unfortunately - because this means that PMail will get uninteresting due to security reason. Regards, Tobias.
->Sorry, but I guess this is incorrect and that you missed the point: Yes, I said I missed the point...hence I actually said " Sorry, I missed your point." ;) ->- kmail _can_ import Pegasus email-folders (and up to now nobody has been ->sued... :->), in adddition Pegasus offers Unix-mailbox-format as an alternative ->to its proprietary format. I haven't even bother to look at Pegasus Mail since Win 3.1 so I wouldn't know. I was basically telling that person what I read about 2 years ago. I wasn't aware things had changed. ->> and if the format is reverse engineered in some cases the developer ->> doing the reverse engineering can be jailed under the DMCA. The guy -> ->AFAIK there is no DMCA in NZL. ;) No DMCA in Russia either, but someone got popped for it. What if the person who reverse engineered it was a U.S. Citizen and the Pegasus author decided to use U.S. law to their advantage just to make a fool of the U.S. developer and to cause a stir. :) The EU is working on a law that is very much like the much hated DCMA. ->He has some doubts about quality of open source products that everyone ->who like can read on http://www.pmail.com/sundry/pmlinux.htm and for this ->reason the source won't be given to the public. I never said anything about open sourcing Pegasus Mail. He could make a binary only version for those who wanted to use it. A lot of Windows users don't have issue with binary only software and those would be his target users. :) I've used Mutt for years now...and GUI mailers annoy me...so this is where I exit this conversation. BTW..I was defending KMail earlier. ;) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.
You guys who are unhappy with KMail, try Sylpheed-claws. I went from Pegasus in Windoze to Sylpheed-claws and am very happy with it. It has multiple address books and pretty good filtering capabilities to dump spam. Download the latest version from: http://claws.sylpheed.org/ Rich

can I import pegasus address?
Forget my first mail. PegasusMail / Win32 has an import-/export-function during opened addressbook (F3) which produces readable text-files with following format: Name: coda-announce E-mail address: coda-announce-request@coda.cs.cmu.edu Key: CODA Of: Phone number: Fax number: Street address: Postal address: Notes: Picture: -- There is also a tool for converting into comma-separated format (.csv) which is usually easier to handle for most applications and might be compatible with kmail's import format. Maybe you will still have to do some minor reformatting which can be done by a text-editor or a spreadsheet-program. You get this tool http://navasgrp.home.att.net/winpmail/index.htm . It must be run under MS-Win - maybe wine works as well. Goodluck! ;) Regards, Tobias.
