what happenned to kooka and kinternet?
Hi, I installed all rpm's from kde.org for kde 3.1.1 for SuSE 8.1, and kooka and kinternet are not there. Did I do something wrong, or are they really missing? While I prefer kppp, there are things only kinternet can handle, such as different devices with different configurations for each connection/providers. kppp has just one device configuration which is uses for all providers. Regards, Matt T.

Hi Ben, So they are really not included in the kde3.1.1 release? I just copied kinternet from the old kde installation, which is probably the same as the one in the "supplementary" of SuSE's ftp, it works, but I was wondering why they are not coming with kde3.1.1. Are they not part of the kde releases, but just an additional application? Thanks, Matt T.

Ya know. I'm not really sure. I would check the version of the RPM's that were installed against the new one's. I just happen to look over at kde.org and figure out that the 3.1.1 build on that ftp server was 5 builds newer then the pkgs on SuSE's ftp site..even though the same person makes them. Don't as me why but things are not in sync. The pkgs on the SuSE ftp server have issues such as KDE's screen saver not accepting passwd's to unlock the screen but the build on kde.org works just fine. If kinternet works for you the way you have it..stick with it. They'll sort everything out eventually. Cheers! -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. From apps.kde.com: "Description: Kooka, part of the kdegraphics package,..." <- that makes me thinking it should be there. Kinternet may be a SuSE thing though, and I installed from kde.org, so it might therefore not be included. Anyway, the old one works fine, I'll take your advice and stick with it. Thanks, Matt T.

kooka is part of kdegraphics3-scan Available versions: kdegraphics3-scan;0.38-118;i586;update kdegraphics3-scan;0.38-63;i586;base kdegraphics3-scan;3.1-21;i586;kde kinternet;0.45-118;i586;update kinternet;0.45-121;i586;base $ ls -l kinternet-0.45-118.i586.rpm 95193 2002-10-10 17:12 kinternet-0.45-118.i586.rpm $ ls -l kinternet-0.45-121.i586.rpm 95259 2002-10-16 15:28 kinternet-0.45-121.i586.rpm Funny the one provided by "base" is newer than the one in update... -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
KInternet is not part of KDE. It is a third-party tool sponsored by SuSE. The official KDE dialup app is KPPP. It works better for me so I use that when I'm not on a network. On Sunday, March 30, 2003 1:34 am, Matt T. wrote:
