[opensuse-kde] transition of KDE3 habits to KDE4
Hello! I finally did it, I had the ***** to install openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.1. Gosh, that's so much different from KDE3... Ok, does KDE4 "kicker" (or how is it called now?) support "tiles", I mean, those formerly found under /opt/kde3/share/apps/kicker/tiles ? And, do the Konqueror profiles still work (=kfmclient openProfile mybeautifulfolderview in KDE3)? thanx Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Try it? For me the konq profiles migrated pretty well. In some of them I had some tabs with multiple split views, those behaved a bit weird. I also experienced problems with non-ascii characters in profile names - at least when using the konq-profiles plasma-widget. But overall only minor issues. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I already do, installed openSUSE 11.1 ;-)

Ok. How do you use them? With GUI only or via command line, if you use them via command line, what is the correct invocation? Because, when I invoke "kfmclient openProfile Dateiverwaltung" for exmaple, it does not work, kfmclient now opens Dolphin, in KDE 3.5 it has opened Konqueror.... You see what I try to mean? I mostly use the konq-profile plasma widget in the panel. But I also sometimes use a script that runs the command exactly like you describe above - and that works fine for me here on 11.0 with 4.1.3. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

It's just called "panel" now (but it is supplied by the "plasma" process). No, it doesn't support button background tiles. As far as I can see, this feature was silently dropped. You could try filing a wishlist request vs application "plasma" at bugs.kde.org and see if it gets rejected or a "could be possible". I don't expect there to be much enthusiasm for it though, although from my understanding of how applets in the panel are now painted, it is technically possible. Ok, if I understand it correctly the panel is just a plasmoid as all other plasmoids, so I could learn how to build my own plasmoid with the desired feature :-) I heard there are binary plasmoids and ones based upon scripts, I hope the panel is a simple script based I could modify...
