[opensuse-kde] firefox extensions for kde4
Hi, in december last year there was a discussion about integrating firefox with kwallet. The discussion went on at e.g. kde-apps: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Firefox+addon+for+kwallet?content=11688... Just today I also encountered some other firefox integration modules for kde. For example the Oxygen theme for firefox: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=117962 and: plasma notify https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/12196 another is to add the possility to easily clear the url bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13078 I did not find packages for the above modules at: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.2/i586/ With the already good integration of firefox with kde in openSUSE (OS) 11.2, it would be nice if the above ones could be included in the upcoming OS_11.3 (if this is feasible and doable, of course). Is this possible, does it make sense to open a bug report, or fate request for this or are these already available? -- Richard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575655 I raised a few issues there which should be taken care of for system wide installed Firefox addons IMHO.
Just today I also encountered some other firefox integration modules for kde. For example the Oxygen theme for firefox: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=117962
MozillaFirefox-theme-oxygen is already part of openSUSE 11.2. Also note that it has to be chosen manually even under KDE as Firefox' default theme inherits the desktop icons anyway and therefore isn't fixed to oxygen. -> done
and: plasma notify https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/12196
that extension was for a short time packaged during the development of 11.2 but was obsoleted by Lubos' KDE integration. -> done
another is to add the possility to easily clear the url bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13078
Here I would like to raise the same question as always. Is it worth an RPM package or can the user just install the addon if wanted? It allows easier updates through Firefox' addon system for example. There are three different Oxygen themes for firefox. The first is called "Oxygen": https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7962 This was the one packaged with openSUSE (or one almost identical to this). It had some Oxygen icons, but things like colors, tab shape, and other non-icon components were substantially different from the KDE oxygen theme. It has also not been updated to work with Firefox 3.6. The second is called "Kde4 + Firefox3": https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7574 This had better-matching colors and I think more (but not all) icons, but never got past the experimental stage and also has not been updated for Firefox 3.6. The third is called "Oxygen KDE", and is the one Richard was talking about: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59338 It has oxygen icons for just about everything, almost perfectly-matching colors, and has much better match for Oxygen widgets like tabs. It is still experimental, however, and has a bunch of graphical glitches for certain popular extensions (like All in One Sidebar and Tree Style Tabs). It is making rapid progress, though. If it reaches stable state I definitely think openSUSE should switch to this theme. It is the only theme I have seen that actually makes firefox look like a proper KDE applications. I actually had firefox and arora open at the same time and it took my a moment or two to figure out which was which.

I think it is important for making it seem like a part of KDE. This is a consistent component of the KDE UI that firefox lacks. So I don't think this is just a matter of making firefox work with KDE, I think the real issue is making firefox act as though it were a part of KDE. And this extension is important for that in my opinion. I should add that the new "Oxygen KDE" theme will theme this icon, giving it the same icon as similar bars in KDE. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
