I'm running SuSE 9.1 desktop PC with sound card. I can read the titles of an audio CD and the sound works when testing sounds in the control panel, but audio cd's don't play. The timer starts and the cd player runs, but no sound. WAV files from our voice mail system play fine as well. Any ideas where I can look to find the problem? -- Robert

Your CD drive probably doesn't have an analog line connection to the sound card, so you need to run the player in CDDA (digital audio extraction) playback mode, which makes it read the digital audio data from the CD and play on the PCM channel channel of the sound card. I heard that kscd has added this capability recently but I don't know whether you have the latest. You can try using xmcd instead, which has that feature. I suggest downloading and installing the latest version from the xmcd web site rather than using the rpm that comes with SuSE. http://www.amb.org/xmcd -Ti (author of xmcd) -- Ti Kan http://www.amb.org/ti Vorsprung durch Technik
