[opensuse-kde] Konqueror inadvertently deleting files!
Hi, I use Konqueror to show some directory in the file system and type in a search pattern in the upper right corner to show only matching files in the list. Now when I select all the shown files and delete them, other files than those explicitly selected will also be deleted! I think this is a major usability issue. I couldn't find anything related in KDE's bug database, does it make sense to file a bug report for this? search pattern in the upper right corner. I'm not sure I understand, that doesn't seem to be the default. which plugin are you using for that?

This sounds severe indeed. I'm sorry but I can't send attachments here, my screenshot didn't make it through. What I mean is the filter input field with the funnel ("Trichter") icon. When I chose "Eigene Dateien" from the suse start menu, Konqueror opens where that input field can be found directly below the Konqueror logo. It seems that upon selecting multiple files (using shift-click), Konqueror will also select those files filtered out that would be selected in the unfiltered display, seemingly those that would be listed in the unfiltered display between the ones that were explicitly selected. I would support calling that a bug. It is definitely counterintuitive behaviour File it at bugs.kde.org and see what they have to say about it Anders -- Madness takes its toll --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I can't reproduce. I created the files 01, 02, 11 and 12 Then I entered "1" as filter. Which filters out "02". I then selected the remaining three files with shift+click and deleted them with shift + delete. This did not delete "02". I'm using the official KDE 3.5.7 packages, btw.

Dirk, he refers to the filter available - where the beagle search bar would normally be in file manager view. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Only now I noticed that the filter could also be the beagle search bar ;) Please see my comments below. Martin Schlander schrieb:

I can't reproduce.
I created the files 01, 02, 11 and 12
Then I entered "1" as filter. Which filters out "02".
That's weird, for me Konqueror starts filtering only when I have more than 1 character entered. So, unfortunately, I can't try out your example! My 'sysinfo:' says '3.5.7 "release 72"', by the way. Due to that 2-character restriction, my test for reproducing looks like this: aa1.txt bb1.txt ca1.txt Now enter a1 in the filter input field, which will leave aa1.txt and ca1.txt shown in the list. Select aa1.txt and shift-click ca1.txt, press Del. My Konq now asks for confirmation about deletion of all three files.
I then selected the remaining three files with shift+click and deleted them with shift + delete.
This did not delete "02".

A couple of us did some testing in #opensuse-kde. The problem seems to depend on the view mode used in konq. My reproduction attempts were with icon view, where the problem does not exist - but (at least) with detailed list view the behaviour is exactly as you describe. Alright, thanks for the link to the bug! Yes I'm using detailed list view as well. Now I wonder how a bad bug list this can make it for more than a year without getting fixed. I mean SUSE is pushing Linux as a desktop environment, and at least I ran into this as the first and badly annoying problem after switching from Windows to SUSE. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Unfortunately the volume of bugs marked 'SuSE' on bugs.kde.org is overwhelming for 4 1/2 guys. We can't fix what we don't know about, but a report at bugzilla.novell.com gets our attention pronto.
