I have no problem switching to left-handed mouse in kcontrol -> peripherals -> mouse on 10.3.

Which kde-packages are you using?

KDE 3 and KDE 4. In past your method worked for me. Now it is not working. I suspect that it could be related to xgl stuff... Thank's Sven, your mail made me think again that I look not in right directions... and I found problem!!! I use Evolution because at work we have GroupWise mail system and I like to use Abiword and Gnumeric. So in my system I found gnome-control-center installed! That is what has grabbed control of my mouse!
