I'm trying to enable remote kdm-login between two machines, tor and oden. oden is running 8.0 and kdebase3-3.0.2-45 while tor is running 7.3 and kdebase3-3.0.2-7. It doesn't seem to work. I din't see any other hosts or user@host coming up in kdm and logging in as Anders@tor or Anders@oden fails. They have exactly the same coupling between user-names and UIDs and tor nfs-exports /home to oden. I have edited the following files thus: 1. /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc thus: ---------------snip------------------- [Xdmcp] Enable=true ---------------snip------------------- 2. /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess ---------------snip------------------- %hostlist oden #on tor and vice versa on oden * CHOOSER %hostlist ---------------snip------------------- 3. /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config ---------------snip------------------- #DisplayManager.requestPort :0 ---------------snip------------------- Furthermore I have restarted kdm on both machines. What have I missed or done wrong ? -- Lewis's Law of Travel: The first piece of luggage out of the chute doesn't belong to anyone, ever.

I'm not sure what you've tried to do here, but to log in on the kdm running on oden remotely from tor, first log in on tor in text mode and start x with X -query oden If you have many xdmcp servers you can use X -broadcast to get a list you can choose from. The chooser built into kdm has been disabled for some unknown reason, so you can't use the local kdm on tor to get to kdm on oden. AFAIK you have to use the method above. //Anders
Fairly speaking, I solely understand Anders's wish to login to remote machine via xdmcp as it can be done in Solaris. I think this issue should be added to KDM's wishlist! Sincerelly, Vitaly On Sunday 28 July 2002 14:21, Anders Johansson wrote:
