[opensuse-kde] Proper Way to Backup, Move KDEPIM
I'm using OpenSuse 13.1 KDE4 on several laptops and a desktop. I've had a frustrating week trying to copy a working KDE4 KDEPIM (4.11.5) from a laptop over to my desktop. Creating a KMAIL backup resulted in a zip file that I copied over only to find no mail in it. Copying over the .local local-mail folder at least got the mail, but not addresses or other stuff. I'm about to do a completely fresh re-install of OpenSuse 13.1 KDE and then I want to copy over the rest of the installation so that everything works. Can someone outline the recommended method of doing this, or should I move to Opensuse 13.2 for a later version of KDE? Suggestions, please? -- Bob, Ladysmith, BC -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

As far as I can tell, the early import/export versions for PIM had bugs that were fixed later on. Given that you're using kmail1, your best bet of finding what you need lies in ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail.

For the addresses you may want to export them from KAddressbook - it should give you a VCard file, which is compatible with any mail client. A little convoluted, but I hope this helps. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79

Don't forget to pick also almost all akonadi configurations related to your resource and then also the db of akonadi. Everything is related and linked and no over-easy backup migrate tools works. I've been forced to mostly recreate everything from scratch when I've moved my home.
