KDE?

I have just upgraded my system from RH9 to SUSE 9.1. So far a few things are bringing back old memories that I'd just soon forget. 1) I for some reason do not have all of the man pages and do not know where to go to get them. 2) I do not have the gcc and make utilities and again do not know where to get them. 3) If I use the My Computer icon to browse an external USB drive the entire system will lock requring a complete poweroff to get going again. Mouse stops working, and Ctrl + Alt + Backspace does nothing. 4) CD won't play music CD's and just sits and spins. 5) Hints over services that are running in bottom right of the panel come up altogether and on top of each other and won't go away. Requiring you to click under them to pull up the application. I have a few more problems but these are the most immediate and any pointers or guidance anyone can provide would be great. Still not able to get this working (see K3bsetup thread from Saturday), I get the error below when I try to burn or erase, etc. Cdrecord has no permission to open the device You may use K3bsetup2 to solve this problem Drive mounts/unmounts fine even from the desktop now and I have setup permissions according to what I've learned here and found on the net. columbus:/dev # ls -la sr0 brwxrwxrwx 1 root disk 11, 0 2004-04-06 09:27 sr0 columbus:/dev # ls -la cdrw lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2004-07-03 23:08 cdrw -> sr0 columbus:/dev # grep cdrw /etc/fstab /dev/cdrw /media/cdrw subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,users,iocharset=utf8 0 0 I believe I removed the experimental subfs that Carl suggested following the doc below, all seems to work fine now with the device except burning with K3b because of these permissions. http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/05/hmeyer_91_revert_from_subfs.html Surely this is something that has been dealt with, does anyone have a external DVD+RW that works with SuSE 9.1 under a non-priv user? Hallo Liste, habe ein Verständnisproblem mit dem Shutdown über KDE.....welcher Befehl wird dort eigentlich ausgeführt bzw. welcher Mechanismus kommt dort zum Einsatz...bitte nicht schlagen...sudo ist es wohl nicht. Wo muß ich im Dateisystem einsteigen? Wer kann mir einen Denkanstoß geben? please help G. Roland

imap server setup

I've followed the instructions on many web pages to set up an IMAP MTA on Suse 9.1, and I keep getting the error message: "Unable to login. Probably the password is wrong. The server replied: LOGIN failed" Does this look familiar to anyone who might know a work-around? One thing that might be biting me in the butt is that I read Kmail (My mail client) requires SSL/TLS for encryption. When I click "Check What the Server Supports", it gives me as encryption options "none" or "Use TLS...", both of which result in the aforementioned "LOGIN" failed message. I'm at a loss: do I have to do all that ssl cert generating stuff? Thanks!

Hi Alle in den vorliegenden Threads vorgeschlagenen Lösungen haben nichts gebracht. Nachdem ich mein /home-Verzeichnis gesichert hatte, habe ich SuSE 9.1 neu installiert. Vorher war 9.0 mit KDE3-3.2.3 drauf. Danach habe ich wie gewöhnlich vor dem ersten Aufruf das Backup von Mail in das /home-Verzeichnis kopiert. Und jetzt kann man die alten Mails nicht mehr lesen : kein Betreff-unbekannt-unbekannt wenn man sie anklickt. Sie sind mit einem Editor lesbar, nur nicht mit Kmail. Peinlich,wenn man sie dringend braucht. Jemand schon eine Lösung gefunden ? Wenn ja, meine überschäumenden Dank ! Otto Werner

Hello! I can't find some of the kontact plugins. Kweather seems not to be installed with the kde toys as usual. I downloaded an rpm source package from sourceforge but after installing the rpm, I can't find kweather on my PC. Where is it? Laurent -- Linux is like an Indian tent: no Windows, no Gates, and an Apache inside!

hi, I have a problem with kopete 0.8.3. since I have upgraded from the last version, I can not connect to my icq. I try to connect, but at the moment kopete connect me, I get disconnected. I don't know where the problem is, because before I upgraded everything was ok. I run kopete under SUSE 9.1 KDE 3.2.3 thanks for help! alex
