[opensuse-kde3] KDE3 and Avahi
Does anyone know if Avahi is still a friggin dependency for KDE3? I gutted that worthless garbage from my 11.0 system and now I can't play any of the games because it "Needs" it. WHY does a game like kpat NEED crap like avahi???? I'm blown away. Does everyone think I need/want all this social networking crap??? Sorry for the rant, but I just can't get my head around the arrogance of some people and their need to force every new and unneeded/unwanted piece of garbage on me. I gutted avahi out of my system to stop unwanted network accesses and now I can't play games without it. Package kpat is part of KDE4. If you want to install the KDE3 version you have to install kdegames3 package.

I'm aware of that. I have that installed. However, like I said, I removed avahi. I'm wondering if avahi is still a required dependency. I can't for the life of me understand why I would need to have avahi installed to make the games work. Here's what I get when I run the games now: kpat: error while loading shared libraries: libavahi-common.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I have yet to find anything else other than the games with this issue, KOffice works just fine. kpoker kmahjongg kmines etc all fail with the same error. It was originally mDNS something or other that failed and I reinstalled that. I've railed against these unneccessary dependencies for years. I just don't understand why someone would compile these games with a requirement like avahi. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+help@opensuse.org
