[opensuse-kde3] 11.4 - launching kde3 as root launches kde4??
Ilya, All, What is up with root login loading kde4 even though the session selected is kde3? I even went back and deleted /root/.kde4 and /var/tmp/kdecache-root and tried again. It still loaded kde4 even though KDE3 was selected in the chooser. I don't even have kde4 installed. I guess the runtime base got installed to support some kde apps, but I was very careful in install going through the "Detailed Package Selection" to make sure nothing but the kde4 runtime was installed. How can I login to kde3 as root? (I do this a least once to set the default fonts, etc so when I launch kate/kwrite as root in my kde3 session, the fonts and icons are correct) What say the experts? -- David C. I can login kde3 as root and kde4 does not load. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+help@opensuse.org

I echo Ilya's comment. I operate root ALL the time. Never, ever a problem. I suspect you have succumbed to the dastardly zypper algorithm of trying to put KDE4 modules in at every opportunity, full moon or not. I have zero modules listed in Yast/Zypper, although a KDE4 (blank) directory was established in /usr/share for some obscure reason. Craziest move zypper made on me was to try to put in Apache and 5 supporting modules when I wanted to add kde3-ktorrent, alone! YMMV. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+help@opensuse.org

Make sure: /etc/sysconfig/display manager is set to "kdm3" /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager is set to "startkde3" If you aren't able to login to kde3 as root after re-booting (the KDE4 login problem goes away, IIW), then the problem is different. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+help@opensuse.org

Found it -- There was a /root/.xinitrc that contained: startkde just moved .xinitrc -> .xinirc-sav -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+help@opensuse.org
