Hi, I've took a look at Ray Strode's plymouth integration patch for Fedora and made 2 small changes into it (unnecessary entries, includes applied by previous patches on gdm). It's in attach. I don't know if it helps at later stages. DimStar could you please take a look into it? It does build against Factory, but I have no knowledge to really understand the changes code wise. There's some aditional documentation about it in this pages, amongst other things. I'm still patching other software to test the wanted behavior later on. Patch is in attach. - http://blogs.gnome.org/halfline/2009/11/28/plymouth-%E2%9F%B6-x-transition/ hope it helps.

Hi, I think this is an amazing work you're doing here and I'm sure we'll have a look at this and try to get the best out of this. The only 'surprise' which I could preview so far with this patch might be a conflict with our gdm-vt-allocation-hack.patch: https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file?file=gdm-vt-allocation-hack.patch&package=gdm&project=GNOME%3AFactory&srcmd5=7f5ae3b84cf6a4cbb10f17f57f697557 Other than that, as plymouth might have some bigger implications, we surely will have to align also with the KDE team here, to make sure that also KDM looks as smooth as gdm. This patch comes from SLED or is to fix any specific bug ? Shipping the two might give us some problems.

We should open a bug to the KDE team with the plymouth patch for KDM. Cheers Luis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Have you got a link to it? Raymond is looking at doing the integration work. I guess is this one is upstream: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206089 and this one http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/gitweb/?p=kdebase-workspace.git;a=tree;h=refs/... from the current fedora kdebase-workspace package. Well, gdm upstream (and plymouth) used to "hardcode" VT for graphical
(and boot) to VT1. Ubuntu folks contributed some code for gdm and
plymouth to be able to fix that and it is probably conflicting with our
(SUSE) hack. I'd suggest to drop it.
FWIW, I've done plymouth integration (with VT != 1 for X) in Mandriva,
so feel free to look at patches in
http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/packages/cooker/gdm/current/SOURC...
and other parts (like KDM, suspend, init scripts, etc..) in svn.

Dear all,
Would it be a good idea to move our current efforts from 0.8.3 to
0.8.4 git? I've noticed that the upstream stable is still 0.8.3 but
Fedora (and probably more folks around) are already working out on
0.8.4.
Now it's probably the right moment to take such decision as work flow
seems to start to increase and more people are getting involved.
Though I don't think this is the right place for this, but would a
OBS project for plymouth help? where we could gather the patched
versions of software (not to break factory installs) for maybe an open
beta in a later stage amongst the community enthusiasts/members/users
who have skills for it?

This just came across my twitter account:

No idea if it helps or is just ubuntu specific.

I can't find such problems with ATI FireGL. So far, it's working great. On Mon, 2010-10-18 at 10:01 +0200, Frederic Crozat wrote:

I'd say go for it. Plymouth authors (Ray Strode and Charlie Brej) are extremely helpful and inclusive in case you find a bug or need a feature, etc..

Yes, it is a good idea. We would centralize all needed changes (and
ensure they are merged gradually).
