[opensuse-gnome] GDM Active Directory Integration Question
Hello, I am trying to set the default login type to use Winbind by setting the default domain when DISPLAYMANAGER_AD_INTEGRATION="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, but I cannot seem to do so. Basically, I want it so users can simply type their AD username and password into GDM without being forced to select the domain each time. I have searched high and low, but I cannot seem to find out how to do this. ANY comments are appreciated. Can you elaborate on the issue? Do you get the Active Directory combo box if you use this setting? Does it work? Is the issue that it doesn't remember the domain that was last used? The domain does show up in the list - albeit twice - however it
defaults to "Local Login". I would like it to default to the domain
(there's only one).
Thanks,

After digging for hours on this issue I finally arrived at my answer:
there is no way to define a default. The domain selector box in GDM is
specific to OpenSUSE and after looking at the patch's code I realized
there is no way to do what I want. I *may* at some point write a patch
for my company's GDM and contribute it to OpenSUSE, but then it
creates another nightmare of ensuring that GDM is never updated or
installed from the wrong source.

Hey Nick It's easy to maintain a personally patched version of GDM or anything else in the OBS and add that repo to your company's machines' repos - at least until the upstream GDM is fixed to meet your needs OOTB. Yes, it's a patch for openSUSE, that upstream doesn't want :/ I can't test all this, but in theory, the last selection should be remembered, so even without defining a default, it should still work the way you'd like it to after the first login. But apparently there's a bug, and since I can't test this, it's not really easy to debug...
