[opensuse-factory] SPAM: 10.2 beta1, software install don't start
this afternoon, I made a demo of the 10.2 beta1 in mpy LUG. after some time without problem I had two problems: - impossible to launch Yast/install software, neither Yast/update. In the two cases, yast starts, begin to show it's winfow then crashes (only the control center windows keep showing). I gave up may be one hour later a firefox session was running when the whole computer crashes (no mouse, no keyboard, completely stuck). I had to leave, so I switched off the computer and did not have the time to bring it up again. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/mediawiki/index.php/GPS_Lowrance_GO --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The problem with the sowtware manager is known and fixed. In beta2 it should work

That sounds strange. After an hour, you say? Overheating? Did you get any messages in /var/log/messages? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Is this the bug #216149? Might want to add your vote... It does not seem to correspond to the symptoms I was originally reported in 2161649. In that bug, it is only the X server that crashes, and it is now known that the bug was introduced in moving to the X.org 7.2. The machine is never left unresponsive, 'cause after the X server crashes init (or the display manager or whatever) restarts it immediately, at which point it functions seemingly normally until the symptom re-occurs within about 1h45m to 2h or so. And in my case, at least, it certainly is not heat-related, since the machine is well ventilated, otherwise idle and uses a Core 2 Duo chip, which if I understand correctly runs significantly cooler than its older siblings (cousins?). In my case, the idling system's CPU temperature is about 40C.

celeron 600 with lot of ram. I didn't use the computer myself, so I don't know what exactly was done, but the user was running firefox (stock). The computer was completely stuck, no keyboard response nor mouse (and I couldn't test from the net). I do not have had time to restart the PC yet... more after that (mesages) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/mediawiki/index.php/GPS_Lowrance_GO --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Sounds familiar ;-(( Boot from CD/DVD and run memtest for atleast 24 hours My own experience: Sometimes the addresses in red turn up in 15 minutes, sometimes after several hours. I have been running it each day. each time giving different malfunctioning addresses, never even once the same address. Several causes could be: 1) Power supply can not cope (after inserting or replacing pci-boards or drives. 2) Leaking elco's on the MOBO 3) Damaged mobo or mem (Recent lightning in the neighborhood, or not working ESD-safe?) Solution for either is costly.
